At the hospital we have a revenge for very nasty people. When you someone you have to put in the extension you want them to call: obivously knowing the extension for the STD clinic, and the Cornors Office are very useful.
Not that I advocate being unproffessional but a book of 'Partner noticification slips; from the above clinic are very very useful as well.
Love Banksy, hate Sols boss.

HOnestly. I thought the whole idea of a personal day was that you could have it without having to give a reason for it. It is a PERSONAL day, right? I feel like you would have been justified in having a screaming hissy fit, but that would probably be unprofessional.
Reminds me of oh these many years ago when I was in the prep for a d&c after my miscarriage, going through intense cramps as I was being dilated. My sister in law got offended with me and when I told her what was going on, her comment was "A miscarriage, huh. I guess that's why you've been such a bitch this weekend." Yes she is still alive.

Nah, Gertrude Stein wouldn't write anything so coherent as a recipe. It was her partner Alice B. Toklas who wrote the cookbook that included the brownies.

What puzzles me is how he can look so comfortable... I tried a similar thing during the all-night ritual and just ended up with a sore back.

if you don't want to look at your linolium i would suggest... covering it up. it's a terror to peel up the new stuff, the older stuff is pure hell. you could always put a rug over it, or you could buy those wood flooring panels. quite a few of them are reasonably priced and you can have it installed or do it yourself.

If you decide to cover it up with the wood flooring panels mentioned above, it is quite easy to install this stuff on your own. BUT, if it is going to be in an area where it is likely to get wet, you will need to run a bead of silicon caulk down each joint as you snap it together or the first time you have a flooding event the "wood" will delaminate and you will have a horrid mess.

For the first time I think that I can sense autumn coming. It's nippy outside tonight, in a different way than the nippy nights we had in late June. Autumnish (circular argument? who? me? )

Sol Posted Sep 8, 2006
Got my revenge. Went and cried at her and made her feel so thoroughly uncomfortable that the fact that I also had to tell her I'd forgotton to tell them I've got to go to the doctor's on Monday actually passed without comment.
This is particularly impressive as she has to come all the way over from the other location to cover me for in an interview. Ha.
This does mean, however, that I have just used the miscarriage as an excuse for getting out of a ticking off for something that _was_ rather unprofesional.
*sigh*
I got up in the dark today and the night was drawing back in just as I got home. I was unreasonably pleased about this in the midst of everything.

So I am having a rather crappy existance at work for the moment. I am going to go get ink tonight to try to forget about life for a little while. For a few minutes it will be me, an artist and a needle. Nothing else will exist.

for Sol (loved the linguistics stuff, by the way). When I was doing the graduate milk-round, it was still OK for employers to discriminate against young women on the grounds that they were likely to get pregnant and take long spells off work. And *my* argument was always the run over by bus and broken leg one, too.
One of my colleagues is currently in hospital having had essential major surgery with no guarantee that he will survive. My boss wanted him to come into the office last week on a particular day, and apparently couldn't understand why he felt that meeting with his executor was more important.
Not much of a people-person, my boss.
Kittens are *soooooo* cute. Apart from when they use the pot plant as a litter tray, that is. Wilder is a tabby and Ransome is black, so they are good reminders of our two previous cats as well. Frantic email from DH while I was a work today when they went missing (right, so I'll check in my handbag then, shall I? ) but in fact they were quite safe, hidden in the knee-deep layer of assorted crud that covers NOD's bedroom floor.
Well, it's that time of year again: the village Annual Flower and Produce Show is tomorrow. My (hopefully prizewinning) lemon cake is currently on the cooling rack. I'm not entering the jam class, though, as my rhubarb-and-ginger jam is more a sort of a sauce. Shame, really, because I wiped the jar and stuck the label on straight and everything. Anyway, the children will be spending the morning making edible clocks ... I should get to bed.
