Hi Vestboy!
I see from another thread that, like me, you seem to be a Brummie "of a certain age". (Like you, I narrowly avoided The Tavern "that" night) I did a lot of work with Youth Clubs, playschemes & stuff in the 80's, before leaving for foreign climes,(teaching) so i would be interested to know who you are involved with.
How are you actually going to produce the cards, in what sort of quantity? Do you plan to publicise the scheme (other than word of mouth)Do you have sponsorship/funding: local industries are usually co-operative if approached from the angle of "publicity & caring image for you"
I would be interested to know more, i can probably rustle up some contacts, especially if you are still in the Birmingham area. You might like to consider contacting the local teacher training colleges, this could make a great project PLUS they have resources you could use to actually produce the cards.
For UK 7 to 11 year olds, personally i would say "yes" to dinosaurs, "no" to Royals. Pop stars & sport are more likely to avoid the "booorrriiiing" reaction; if it ain't somehow it just gets seen as bloody grown ups being a pain! Most kids can detect "education" in any disguise (i speak as one who grew up in kids homes, the bullshit detector is well developed!)

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
Yes, Brummie by origin but I haven't lived in the fair city for more than 20 years. West London is my stomping ground now.
I don't have a problem with money for the cards as my job at the moment means I am funding projects. We do have businesses looking at getting involved. My dream is for local businesses, which sell items that children would buy, to have an amount of stock put to one side for purchase using the cards. Like a basket of hair clips, badges and scrunchies in Tammy Girl or whatever. I would really like to see some of the service industry (like Cinema) also offering children the opportunity to use their services off peak.
Key: Complain about this post
