I'm an American and a student of history. Very nice entry! I haven't seen the "original entry" you're referring to ... where is it?
One way you could shorten it is to try to cut back on the historical tangents though. I might personally be somewhat interested in reading about Alexander Hamilton, but peobably somebody just wanting to find out what this whole "Americana" thing is all about probably wouldn't be.
I can see you've put alot of work into it though!

I'd say Hamilton's legacy is that has a lot to do with the American identity.
The immigrant dream, for one thing. Capitalism for another.
