First Mate Jörundr Foesmasher's Quarters
Jerms - a Brief flicker and then gone again. Started conversation Aug 30, 2004
Welcome to the quarters of Jörundr Foesmasher! (Yes that's me, in case you're wondering. )
Sorry about the current lack of decorations and furniture; the room's only just been renovated and I haven't had the chance to finish it all yet... hopefully soon.
Any suggestions?
I'm thinking I'll put the hammock in /that/ corner *points*, and the weapons rack /there/ *points* and the bookshelf and chart cupboard /there/ *points*... but I'm not really sure about anything else...
...and the room needs painting, too...

oh! it sounds very nice!!
how about black for the walls? and maybe some black netting on the hammock... wiht fairy lights... and a red douvet
i think perhaps you might want an armchair or desk.. or maybe some sort of table.
i'm glad you're all set up
*hands over the cabin warming *

Hmmm... black walls sound good... it'd show up the light coming throught the porthole in pretty patterns too...
Wait a second... what kind of wood is this?.... *wanders over to an exposed bit of the wall*... Oak? I think?... that would go well with a black woodstain... hmmm... maybe a haarlem oil stain for the trim...
I like the thought of fairy lights on the hammock... I think of got some in one of those boxes which I haven't unpacked yet *points*... Not sure if the duvet's too big though; I only have king size duvets and I'm pretty sure they'll fall off the hammock while I sleep 'coz the hammock's too small for them... I may have to get some more, but I'll try it and see.
I'll also keep my eyes out for a nice leather recliner... I saw one the other day but it was on castors so that would be annoying in a storm!
And look! The chart cupboard has this fold-down bit, so I can use it as a writing desk, too!
Okay so at the moment I need: Wood stain, maybe a smaller duvet (with a nice red cover, maybe maroon... or perhaps that's a bad word on a boat ) , an armchair... and ... um. Some way of plugging in my stereo and the fairy lights? Hm.

well my cabin has a small power outlet... so seeing as your cabin is beside mine perhaps we could run an extension cord through the wall to yuor room.
if you like i can try and get a bigger hammock for you... there are cots and bunks available if you like.
black wood stain sounds very very nice!
and no i dont think maroon is a very good word on a ship
the castors might be annoying.. but i wonder if perhaps they screw off or something... and you may want some sort of reading lamp... or candle...
your room sounds very cool. i think i may even like it better than mine. i'll have to come and visit you lots...

I'm not fussed about a bigger hammock; it's not as if I need the extra space... besides I don't think I could fit a king size one in here! I like hammocks more than beds cots or bunks anyway; I sleep better in them, and they're cozier. Especially on a boat; the rolling feels smoother.
I think I'm sold on the woodstain too, now that I think about it.
I'll see if there's some in the hold, along with that armchair I think I saw; pity we don't have a quartermaster to help me find them... ah well.
And I already have a lantern; it's in that box with the fairy lights... I just need to remember where I put my hooks, to hang it from the ceiling!
Visit me any time you want; day or night I'll be glad to see you!
Of course!
*rummages through various boxes, and pulls out a hunk of metal which looks like a paddlewheel in a case, with a cable coming off it.*
*Puts the gizmo aside, rummages through another box and pulls out some flippers goggles and a snorkel.*
*Puts the flippers goggles and snorkel aside...* Excuse me, need to get into that box now... thanks hun... *Opens a third box, and pulls out a handheld drill, a spare plastic bag and some duct tape.* Oh look, there are those hooks... *pulls out hooks, puts them aside*
*Grabs a spare towel hanging over the door, spreads it out on the floor in the corner between the outside hull and the back wall of the room... starts drilling a hole through the side of the hull...*
*After a while water starts squirting past the drill bit... he pulls out the drill, inserts plastic bag. Tapes plastic bag over the hole with the duct tape. Makes sure it's watertight, and then wipes up excess splashes with the towel.*
*Grabs gizmo, flippers snorkel and mask, and rushes out the door...*
*... rushes back in the door, rummages in the third box again, pulls out hammer and nails as well, and rushes out the door again...*

well i'll be happy to help you wiht moving the chair up here.
and i agree about the hammock. perhaps i should replace my bunk wiht a cot...
i'll be taking you up on that ofer to come and visit you at any time of the day or night but if i come at night i'll try and remember to bring cocoa...
*looks puzzled at what foesmasher is doing. *
when he comes back i must remember to ask him what hes up to. and if he wants that extension cord...

*comes back in the door, dries himself off with a fresh towel*
*puts first towel back in the same corner again, under the plastic bag which now has the cable of the gizmo sticking into it through the hole in the hull.*
*Is happy the plastic bag isn't leaking, so no water got through.*
*Pulls off plastic bag, and uses all-weather silicone glue stuff to quickly seal the hole around the cable, before the towel gets too wet.*
*Rummages in the first box again, pulls out a power socket without anything attached, a normal electrical multi-board, and a soldering iron and other soldering stuff.*
*starts taking apart the power socket, while the silicon dries.*
Worked out what I'm doing yet?

*starts to solder the power socket onto the cable of the generator, but notices the almost-forgotten cabin warming ... thoroughly distracted, he cuts up the into slices and offers Arisztid a slice before eating one himself...*
Mmmcake! Thanks, Arisztid!

*accepts the cake*
thanks jerms
well i'll just take a wild guess and say that you're going to get power from a padel that is turned as the ship goes.. whatever thats called, i cant remember right now... am i right? or even close?

Jerms - a Brief flicker and then gone again. Posted Sep 1, 2004
Yaaaay!!
Gee, you didn't even need the other two guesses...
Mmm... that's a mighty fine cake... did you make it yourelf?
Yeah the generator's paddles get turned as the ship moves, and we can just plug in any electrical thingees into the sockets same as a wall socket on land. So now I can have my stereo, and the fairy lights, and whatever else we want, and we don't have to worry about draining batteries or nuisance cables trying to trip us up!
Except I just realised we still need cells attached, so that we don't run out of power when the boat's stopped... and some kind of voltage regulator would help, too... Gah! Where's an alchemist when you need one!

Arisztid Lugosi Posted Sep 1, 2004
hooray i was right!!!
and yes thank you. i did make the cake myself. i'm glad you like it
*thinks of adding alchemist to her list of jobs needing to be filled*

Phew! Okay, I've just finished a lot of work while nobody was watching... we now have continuous VReg'd-power throughout the ship. The batteries will last for almost a week without being recharged depending on use (they recharge whenever the ship moves forward), and the output will run standard electrical appliances... same as on land.
I've even found a couple of step-up transformers, so no matter how much drain there is, we still drain the batteries at a maximum rate of 10mA/h.

What do I want to do?
I'm just going to assume you meant in a handyman-type capacity.
Dunno. Something creative. Something hands-on. Something technical.
What else needs doing? Is the boat comfortable for everyone?
I heard FIGJAM in a movie somewhere; same as SNAFU. Possibly FUBAR too. You pick them up here and there.
