Thanks for the compassion!!!
I have not yet found a new job. I got laid off 31.12. effective so I still have more than two months left to look for something new.
I'm already searching of course but I'm not (yet) in a hurry.

It really makes you want to go out and do something radical against globalisation and all that. I've got a job interview on Tuesday. Perhaps I'll finally be happy.
(At my age, when you take on a new job, you're looking at something which you will probably, ideally, spend the rest of your working life in. At least, in Germany it's like that).
As I suggested in the GerMania Group - perhaps we should start writing in German again, so the transvols have something to do!

Whoops - I went off the subject a bit there. Aurora, I meant to ask what you do. It's always the case that the newest employees go first when people are laid off. But if you don't get a chance to get established, you always hold the shortest straw.
Life is unfair.
Make sure you get a good reference.

TC, good luck for your interview!!! I'll press my fingers and cross my thumbs for you!!!
It's true: the last to come is always the first in line to get fired. What made me really angry was, that I was headhunted - abgeworben - out of a job only six months ago! I mean why hire me out of a job and then fire me a few months later?!
And there's more...unpleasant...stuff going on. To long to post here. But I promise to bore you all to death with my story, when we meet next year!
I'm working in the IT sector. I buy software licences and advise the sales people on how the different licencing programs work. It's quite intersting actually but I wouldn't mind working in another line of business. I have send out a couple of applications and for now I'll just see what happens (*sings "Que sera, sera - whatever will be, will be...* ).
I'm pretty optimistic at the moment. I'll find a new job - and this time it will be nearer to where I live. I'm tired of spending two hours on the Autobahn every day!!!

Yes, good luck for your interview, TC! Isn´t this a funny place, Germany? I´ve always had the idea: "Oh! 25jähriges Betriebsjubiläum" How boring!!! But I´m quite happy now with the fact having worked for 6 years with the same company... If I had the time I could even work a 150 - 175% job... I´ve got problems cutting down the offers of work I get...

fingers crossed and toi-toi-toi for both of you! The current situation isn't really fostering the IT market (if you discount those who are producing security items)

Yes there was a meet, and it was
Initially I planned to go by car, but then the exhaust pipe went 'kaputt' and the TÜV check was due -- no chance to get it through without repair, but spending 3000,- on a car that is worth 1000-1500 wasn't the right thing to do. Since then...
... I'm walking, yes indeed, I'm walking...
Hence, no way of driving to NL and picking you up
