This works quite well in French. Let's try it here.
Take a famous person and translate their name. Either German into English or English into German. The others have to guess who it's supposed to be.
No more than five per posting.......
Albert Onestone (an easy one to start with!)
Richard Coachman
Elisabeth Schneider
Sam Knie-dich-hin
Uwe Bafög

OK, lets try:
Albert Einstein (has been said, already)
Richard Busmann (?)
Elisabeth Taylor (actress)
Sam Kneeldown (?)
Uwe Grant (?)
Happy New Year, everybody!

yes, Einstein and Taylor. But the rest . If it was Richard Coatman I could have guessed the translation was Richard Clayderman but
Happy New Year everybody!

OK - AFAIK Hugh is the equivalent of Uwe. So Holle Polle got nearly all of them there.
A further clue:
The guy with the coaches wrote operas.

Hmm - when it comes to I can only think of 'der Bulle von Tölz' but I fail to see the connection to an Oil Rig
Here are five more:
- Oscar Fountain
- George Mattocklet
- Oliver Rowingboat
- Helge Tailor
- Michael Altfeld
and of course
- Oil Rig, the thick policeman...
is still open

Derrick, of course!
- Oscar Fountain >>> Oskar Lafontaine
- George Mattocklet >>>
- Oliver Rowingboat >>> Oliver Kahn (should that be barge?)
- Helge Tailor >>>> Helge Schneider
- Michael Altfeld >>> Mike Oldfield

Ah, of course, Derrick
leo didn't give me anything particular as a translation for 'Kahn' so perhaps 'barge' would have been it
As to Mattocklet, this could also be 'Hoe-let' where I put the -let in to indicate some 'deformation' from the usual spelling...

They once showed a clip of it in Chinese.
While there's still one in the last list that has us foxed, let me see if I can think up some more.
1. Fred Quecksilber
2. Stephanie Count
3. Fred Sparkler
4. John Stream
Oh - yes - and Sam Neill was the one Holle Polle didn't get -

Bon voyage then, Chan-Mick
Fred Quecksilber of course is Freddy Mercury
the others... hmmm *scratches non-existing beard*
George Mattocklet was meant to mean Georg Hackl but that one obviously was too obscure
