The nanny state doesn't interfere with conversations between people who are already friends. It may run interference when it comes to making new friends by making people self-conscious. I'd better not mention how I feel about paedophiles. In a discussion about how they were being allowed to get away with it (about 3 months ago), I cracked a joke about lynching and, I can't remember the exact diatribe but someone went mental - seemed to think I should be lynched for even joking about dealing with the poor paedophiles.
Anyway, I don't think your question is likely to stimulate as much debate here, on your personal space, as it would if you posted it in a forum.
