I was wondering what people here think of the conflict over wether lesbian should refer to homosexual women or natives of Lesbos

From what I remember, of my classical studies, lesbians refers to homosexual women because Lesbos was full of lesbos

No its cause of Sappho a poet from Lesbos who is widley consider to have been gay though what I know about her makes bisexuality seem more likely. But back to were I started who do you think the name belongs to and can it apply to both.

Well technically the word refers to the people of Lesbos and did so long before it was taken to mean a homosexual woman. I suppose it now means both, although I doubt that the islanders like that.

Well I doubt it's overly funny being Lesbian if you're male despite other people, ie me, finding it amusing. It's even better when you point out that approximately 50% of Lesbians are male.
