I was wondering why you did'nt mention Iron deficiency. Ok, i know it's a 'trace element', but it is the essential thing to keep Rhododrendrons, Camellias and other 'acid' loving plants healthy. Some readers may think that the Chlorosis on their 'acid' loving plant is a nutrient deficiency, when it's probably an Iron deficiency.
Just thought i would mention that, hope you don't mind.

I didn't mention the Iron Deficiency because this comes under 'Minor Nutrients' and decided that this would be best left to another article in the near future.

I currently have 4 rose bushes either in full bloom or in bud - my hebe is starting to flower, have loads of (non-hardy fuscia bushes which survived last winter) in bud or bloom and would you believe my strawberry plants have flowers on them! I ask you - or what?

Hi folks! Great article Nigel. This is stuff I don't yet know much about. Generally most of my plants are healthy but on occasion one or two seems to be doing poorly and then I don't know what's wrong ... whether it be a nutrient deficiency, or a sickness, or some mite or bug attacking them ... this is one area I still have much to learn about! This article will be a big help!

The weather is very strange, the plants are very confused, flowering at strange times of the year .

We will soon be able to grow tomato plants at Christmas time .

Your strawberry plants are flowering Scorp. I must check on mine down the allotment, oh just thought, silly me , I have dug them up because they were water-logged and didn't survive. I'm not sure if I will bother growing any next year, the slugs and snails beat me to them .

I had the same trouble with slugs etc., in previous years - so this time I planted them in a huge (and I do mean huge) pot. Placed the pot on top of a high pile of slabs (waiting to be laid) and the little blighters left them well alone, 'cos it was too much trouble to climb up.

I had a massive slug problem last year, I literally couldn't step out without treading on one. I lost count at about 50 on the patio one evening.

I bought some nematodes from the bird food suppliers, feeling very sceptical but desperate !! Now, whether this year they have been less prolific generally I don't know, but I have had very few. Apparently the nematodes go on working underground. I don't like chemicals so this was great.

Hope that helps as it's soul destroying when they chomp through your precious plants. Ours were after the bird food.
