As brilliant as H2G2 is with its incredible range of entries, I do think there is a glaring omission that (I hope, as I'm unable) someone should address. Someone please, provide the waiting millions with a full blown genealogy of The Smurfs! Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember the theme tune may have been in the British Pop Music Charts when I was younger. I may be wrong and haven't checked anywhere, just my memory! 'La la la-la-la-la- la la la la..la la la' is how it went, honest.

Children here used to collect the little figures made of hard rubber stuff. My friend had a sack-full, when we were about 7yrs old (1978).

Yes, although I've just realised there may have been too many to handle - ie in other countries where 'The Smurfs' were shown.

For example, I can remember watching it in Germany in 1990 (as part of official Au Pair duties!) and they had the same cartoons as us, dubbed, but definitely different theme music.

So - can of worms -open (sorry)!

The history of the Smurfs is detailed toward the end. I'd suggest your introduction noted that this entry is based on the fictional history of the Smurfs as derived from the Hanna Barbera cartoon series, in turn based on the stories created by Peyo.
