Nice one, MaW. I found it very readable; now I want more. NOW!!!
I'm trying to write a story myself at the moment. Even after many years of writing technical documents, I'm finding it very difficult. I lack many skills, it seems, writing convincing dialogue not being the least of them. To write a story is easy. To write a story that makes you want to read it...

Thankyou very much!
I have to say that writing is very, very hard. I've been trying to get this story up and running since November and before - it's gone through numerous iterations since that time, even in the last three months or so I've written the first part about six times and each one was the introduction to a different story! Thankfully it's all coming together now, and I think this is probably the best piece of fiction I've ever written. The trick will be maintaining this level, and hopefully improving on it, as the weeks go by and the story progresses. I've already caught myself writing some truly appalling dialogue for part four...
