A Conversation for That Kolchak Episode...

Gotta lotta time for Kolchak. (Though many don't: Stephen King described it as 'charmingly awful'.)

Interestingly the most junior member of the writing team, David Chase, is now top banana on the ultra-hip and acclaimed show The Sopranos.

Is it worth mentioning the fact that the X-Files happily pirates Kolchak ideas pretty much whole cloth from day one? The third episode of X Files is a remake of the second Kolchak TV movie, superficial details are different but the central concept is virtually identical.

Definitely worth mentioning...smiley - cheers

The more info regarding this TV series the better... As the Wonderland doesn't seem to have much on The Night Stalker from what I've seen [or more exactly: _not_ seen] during my BBCi search activities...smiley - whistle

There were rumours a while ago about a new Night Stalker movie?!... Didn't happened unfortunately...smiley - wahsmiley - wah

Well, apart from having every episode and both movies on tape, and having read many interviews with McGavin and one with Chase, plus King's critique of the show, I wouldn't call myself a real expert.

Apparently Chris Carter wanted Darren McGavin to appear in X-Files actually as Kolchak - but he wouldn't reprise the role. Then he was offered the Bill Mulder part, but he was busy. So they eventually cast him as Arthur Dale (or whatever he was called).

Yep, that's the one: Mulder's predecessor...smiley - disco

Just a flying visit as I'm working tonight [smiley - sadface]... Have you seen the scripts which didn't make it ?! [I've got the link somewhere and will post it tomorrow] One of the script writers couldn't obviously remember for which series they were writing...smiley - yikes I mean Karl instead of Carl is not too bad but KOJAK instead of Kolchak?!...smiley - wahsmiley - laughsmiley - wah

Oh and on a more smiley - bubbly note, someone has suggested that I write a version for the EG...smiley - cool

Here we go: http://www.darrenmcgavin.net/unproduced_ns_scripts.htm

Still, I suppose that things like that happens [or has happened] with many TV series and there must be loads of unproduced scripts "out there"...smiley - winkeye

I get the impression that a lot of shows decided it was better to drop a script they'd paid for and commission a replacement than to just plough on with any old rubbish.

Had a look round DmcG's website: funny, but right from the first time I watched The Sentry I thought 'hmm, maybe the woman playing this week's Obstructive Cop is McGavin's wife'. Dunno where I got the impresion from. Never mind...

I seem to be the only person who thinks the second Kolchak movie is better than the original!
