The new Football season starts today. My last entry was a little wrong in that Saints actually lost 2-1 . Now we are in the Championship (Old second division) First game against Wolves today, who's manager is one Glenn Hoddle.

History of Southampton Football Club.

Nov 1981

UEFA cup Second Leg. Final score Sporting Lisbon 0 Saints 0.(Agg: 4 -2)

Saints are knocked out of the UEFA Cup after a good fighting display by the away team. Saints had such players as Nick Holmes, Alan Ball, Kevin Keegan, mick Channon ,and Dave Watson in the team. Manager Lawrie McMenemy

March 1984

Southampton 5 Sheff Wed 1

Saints go into the FA Cup Semi--Finals against Everton on 14th april after a super showing.

April 1984

Southampton 8 Coventry 2

57 Mins Steve Moran
64 Mins Danny Wallace
69 Mins Frank worthington
76 Mins Steve Moran
82 Mins Danny Wallace
85 Mins Danny Wallace (Hat trick)
Just some of the goals. Man of the match Danny Wallace.

May 1984

Southampton 5 Spurs 0

With Saints again in the UEFA cup (the next season) with Arsenal drawing earlier in the day. Spurs had to visit the Dell with another match 48 hours away against Anderlech, so fielded a very weak team.

More history to follow. Plus a up-dating on the progress or lack of it in the forthcoming season

Last League game Saints 1 Coventry 1

........................................................................
History of southampton Football club (cont)

Feb 1995

Saints 6 Luton 0
Having gone to Kenilworth Road (thanks all those Luton people who never helped me get a ticket!)
and had a draw, Saints entertain Luton

Matt Le Tiss goes mad scores a few then goes off because he had the 'flu (actually as we were 5 0 up I think they felt sorry for Luton, then we still scored yet another!)

Oct 25 1996

My favourite score line

Saints 6 Man Utd 3

What can you say? I felt I was on cloud nine for a fortnight. Went to work, and there was the Man Utd fan( He claimed to come from Manchester, but I don't think he did) He didn't know how to look at me! What a satisfying result. And yes Schmeichel was in goal!

My 19 2001

Black arm bands to be worn. The very last ever League game at the Dell
Final score Saints 3 Arsenal 2

with the score at 2-2 Stuart Gray brought on Matt Le Tiss who had hardly played all season, and guess who scored the final goal? Matt Le Tiss has the hounour of scoring the last ever league goal at the Dell.

In case anyone ever wonders what happened to the Dell it was turned in to a housing development. I have been told, although not seen it, that there is a plaque commemerating the fact the Dell stood on the spot.

Tues May 14 2002

Saints 9 England XI 9

At this game. What a game, more stars than you could shake a stick at.
With Matt Le Tiss's son taking a penalty, from the full distance despite Ian Wright moving the ball forward for him, and then the boy scored!

Will remember the night for ever! Boy was I tired next day, as I had to drive 100 miles back home from the game, got in goodness knows what time!

Now coming towards the end of my book 'Southampton F.C a History from 1908'

The last two enteries both relate to our games with Steaua Bucharest

At home we drew 1 1 (Sept 24 2003)

Away we lost 1 0 (Oct 15 2003)
I was in France this time and listened to 'Radio Five live' in the car, as it was better reception than the radio in the 'house' we were in. Very unhappy over the result, as we were out 2 1 on agg

------------------------------------------------------------------------
As that is the History of Saints brought up to the last page of my book,I will endevour from time to time to now keep up with what is happenenig to them in the future. Hopefully a return to the Premier League, and on to glory. You can alway hope! So MORE NEXT TIME!

Since my little break in Cornwall, Saints drew 7 games in a row, however the 8th game which would have set a record ended in defeat against Leeds. The next two games Saints actually won. The last game they played Sat Nov 5th was against Leicester, which again ended in a draw.

I did attend the Hull match which although Saints had a host of chances, was one of the 7 draws.

I had hoped at the Hull match to meet a certain Saints fan, who I gave my mobile number tto. However never heard from them.

I hope to go again in February when Saints play Reading, then with luck get to another Home match before the season ends.

Meanwhile Theo Walcott our 16 year old is turning into a good player, but will he stay?

Only time will tell.

Time to catch up again on my 'History of Southampton F.C.

Since my last time of writing plenty has happened.

Mainly in the subject of managerial postition! With Harry Redknapp leaving and returning to Portsmouth. Which now leaves the Saints under the temporary (?) care of Dave (Harry) Bassett, with Dennis Wise helping him. Rupert Lowe has said there is no rush to replace Redknapp, and he will take his time.

Meanwhile on the footballing side Saints have drawn most of their games, losing to Leeds Utd, after being 3 -0 up at half time.

If anyone ever reads this and wants to find out more about Southampton Football Club, then I suggest they log onto www.saintsfc.co.uk. From there you can go to the message board and add your own comments.

I'm often on the message board, with my views.

Good Luck.

Time to catch up again on Southampton Football club.

Since I was last here Harry Redknapp has gone to some team called Portsmouth, (Don't ask me I don't know of them either).
With George Burley who was Manager of Hearts of Midlothian taking over. No sooner than he did than the team proceeded to lose the next three games over the Xmas period, and winning the last game played in the League (before today) against Brighton. In the FA cup Saints were at home to MK Dons where although winning 3.1 at half time threw it all away, and with just minutes to go were 3.3. Thank goodness for a last gasp goal to win 4.3. They next play Leicester at the Walker Stadium in the 4th round.

The other news is that Antti Neimi has left for Fulham, Niel McCann(t) has left, and that most probably Theo Walcott will go soon. So far Saints have signed a Polish Keeper whose name I can't begin to spell and no one else.

I also read a local consortium of business men were looking to take the club over, but I know no more, and think it was just 'paper talk'. As we shall not be rid of Rupert Lowe for some years yet, which is a shame.

Since my last 'Up date' Theo Walcott has gone to Arsenal for £5 million pounds and more depending on his future progress, Saints still have to win a game as the last game against Derby was a 0-0 draw. The 'Take over' never happened, as I thought. Many more players have left. The fans who attend the games have been demanding that Rupert Lowe should go. So far this has had the opposite effect. The last statement issed by George Burley that I read was to the effect of asking for more time. So is his job on the line as well. Meanwhile Saints slip nearer and nearer relegation.

To cap it all the fans forum on the Southampton web site seems as though it may close down. As the other sites run by the same company are closing down one after another. Should the Fan forum close there is another address for anyone interested which is 'thesaintsfc.proboards55.com'. where some of chat to each other and make comments on the lastest topics.

In the Fa Cup Saints beat Leicester, 1-0. Now face Newcastle in the 5th round at St James Park, game next weekend.

Time to Up-date my thread concening Southampton Football club.

Since last updating Southampton have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Newcastle, losing 1 0. The First half of the game the Saints were defending for ther lives, and finished 0 0. Start of the second half and Saints were much more lively, with some missed chances, however Dyer of the Toon scored a goal, which looked like it was offside.

Just after this Dexter Blackstock came on as sub, then after an injury to the Goalie(Bart) Blackstock took over goal keeping duties, as Saints had used up all their subs. Although Blackstock looked a bit shakey, and made a few strange saves he kept a clean sheet. Well done Dexter Blackstock!

This Saturday 25/02/06 Saints played Sheffield Wednesday at St Mary's. With the former Saints manager Paul Sturrock in charge of the Owls.

By half time Saints were already 1 0 up from Danny Higginbotham. In the second half Saints scored two more, one from K Jones who had spent a long time on loan to the Owls.

Final score Saints 3 Owls 0. Hopefully this is enough to prevent Saints from being relegated again, it is to be hoped that now they will win a few more.

On the Club side a large chunk of shares were sold to a local business man who is now the largest single share holder on the company, it remains to be seen what difference this will make, if any to the running of the club.

Just an up date on Southampton foootball club. Last game was against Sheffield Wednesday 'The Owls' managed by Paul Sturrock, who used to manage Saints. The game ended 3 nil to the Saints.

then on during this week we heard that Peter Osgood had passed away at the age of 59. He was one of the FA Cup winning team from 1976. I remember cahnting 'Osgood is goood' when seeing himplay at the Dell, another former Saints player also died this week Charlie Wayman, as he played in the 1940's I am sorry I could not say how good he might have been. I hope they both rest in peace.

On a brighter side Saints play Coventry today, at St Mary's let hope they win

Since my last 'update' the season ended. With Saints winning the last remaining games, except against Crystal Palace.

So relegation was forgotten and Saints ended up in a mid table spot. However off the field rumours are flying round of a replacement Chairman, George Burley is also rumoured to off the Charlton, so the normal events are taking place! That is chaos!!! Also Clive Woodward could be going back to rugby.

On a slightly brighter note. Although he is an Arsenal player, Theo Walcott has been picked for the England World cup squad. It seems Sven has never seen him play! So even I know more about an England player than the Manager of England!

More next season, if anyone ever reads this have a nice summer.

I'm off to watch Hampshire play cricket as they are my 'other' team. Will be back from time to time in the summer. Then the new season will be on us, will try to keep this more up to date than last season.

Sorry got a bit busy during the break.

So an up-date required.

Rupert Lowe has now been replaced as Chairman, a local business man Michael wilde ousted him or rather Rupert lowe resigned a few days before an Emergency General Meeting was called. There are supposed to be many backers for Southampton FC now, but they are still to come forward as I write.

On the Football side there have been many signings.

The first Game of the pre- season starte with Eastleigh winning against Saints . The Result was Eastleigh 2 Saints 1.

Will now try to keep up every week on here.

As an interest, the Offical Saints Site (www.saintsfc.co.uk) no longer runs a fans forum. To access the one I use go to http://thesaintsfc.proboards55.com

Saints have been playing some pre season games in Sweden,

Kungshamns 0 Saints 4, and Halstead 2 Saints 4 are the latest results I have from these. Meanwhile on the player front Saints have signed Bradley Wright -Phillips, Pele (no not the 'best player in the world another Portuguese player who calls himself Pele), and Kelvin Davies from Sunderland to keep goal.

George Burley is still after a few more players as well, lets hope they come before the new season starts.

First Game of the Season is V Derby. Before that comes a few more pre season games to go though

George Burly still looking to add a few more players to the squad, was not worried about the team performance on the field, rather the happenings off the field. And with Danny Higginbotham looking like he might leave George Burley has not long to look round before the season starts.

CHELTENHAM 1-3 SAINTS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well another friendly and another win for the red and whites!

Goals from Kenwynne Jones, Dexter Blackstock and an unnamed trialist proved too much for Cheltenham.

The trialist's identity has been kept a secret to avoid alerting other clubs-an intersting move by GB. By all accounts he had an absolute blinder and could be about to be the latest addition to the Burley revolution.

The game also saw Pele make his debut in a saints shirt and, despite few language barriers, he looked composed at the back.

One casue for concern was Killer (Svensson) coming off holding his troublesome knee but by all sccounts it was more a precaution than anything else.

So next up Panithanaikos and the first wearing of the new home shirt!

But Sebastian Ariel equalised in the 80th minute when his cross went over goalie Kelvin Davies.
