Bristol City 2-0 Southampton
Ivan Sproule's injury-time goal ensured Bristol City's unbeaten league run stretched to nine games while leaving Southampton deep in relegation trouble.
City's Bradley Orr saw an early penalty saved and Saints hit the post twice before Dele Adebola latched on to Gavin Williams' pass to put the Robins ahead.
Kayne McLaggon tested home keeper Adrian Basso after the break and Jason Euell missed a tap-in from six yards.
And Saints paid dearly when Sproule raced the length of the pitch to score.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bristol City boss Gary Johnson:
"Southampton put us under pressure but we defended when we had to and earned our win.
"Things are going very well for us and we are confident about making the play-offs, not in an arrogant way, but because we have faith in one another."
Southampton manager Mark Wotte:
"I can't fault them for what they did in the second half. But we play to score goals and didn't, which is why we are in our current position.
"I think we have better quality strikers, but at the moment we are finding it hard to get goals and that has to change.
"I can't believe we lost. The least we should go home with is a point."

Saints WIN, shock horror!!
Southampton 3-1 Preston
Saganowski scored twice as Saints blitzed Preston in the first half
Marek Saganowski scored twice as Southampton romped into a 3-0 half-time lead and held on to win despite a late rally from promotion-chasing Preston.
Saganowski teed up Andrew Surman who drilled the opener in at the near post.
Simon Gillet and Adam Lallana combined to set up Saganowski whose half-volley made it 2-0 and he smashed in the third after a pass from Surman.
Ross Wallace's close-range finish made it 3-1, and Wallace and John Parkin had chances late on but Saints held out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton head coach Mark Wotte:
"It was a big win for us and will do a lot for our confidence - but we are still in trouble.
"With 13 games to go we probably have to win another five or six games so we'll keep our feet on the ground.
"The difference today was that we had a goalscorer. In recent games we have played well and have got nothing.
"At Bristol City last week we hit the post twice and in all could have scored three goals but we ended up with nothing.
"The difference today was that Marek Saganowski put the chances away."
Preston manager Alan Irvine:
"They were first to every ball, they passed the ball better - and we were second best all over the pitch.
"Our application, desire and determination is something I don't normally have to question with my players - but I did today."
"Sometimes you have to use the big stick and on other days it's best to remain calm.
"Today I used the big stick and it got some response. The second half was better - but we had left ourselves with a mountain to climb.
"In this division there is not much between the teams and you have to turn up for every game - and we did not turn up today."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shock horror Saints win AGAIN!
Southampton 1-0 Cardiff City
Jason Euall keeps Mark Kennedy at bay as the Saints take the spoils
A controversial penalty from David McGoldrick after 11 minutes earned struggling Southampton a vital win in their fight against relegation.
The result brought an end to Cardiff's 13-match unbeaten Championship run and hurt their play-off hopes.
Mark Kennedy was penalised for handling in his own goal area after good work from Jason Euell and McGoldrick struck.
The Saints climbed one place to third from bottom while Dave Jones' side dropped to sixth in the table.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton boss Mark Wotte:
"You have to be united, that is very important and there is a great spirit in the team now.
"The players believe they can stay up and we have had two fantastic results and now we have to keep winning.
"Defensively we were excellent and this is our first clean sheet for some time.
"I am very proud of my team and the way they have been fighting for each other in the last few weeks."
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones:
"I don't think we performed anywhere near what we are capable of. I think possibly four out-field players did their jobs and the rest didn't turn up.
"It's hard to swallow... It's a harsh decision for the penalty when you're looking for a little bit of luck.
"I wished the linesman's eyes had been as sharp [in the second-half] as they were in the first-half because it's a clear-cut penalty when the [Southampton] lad hands it back to the keeper.
"But full credit to Southampton - they worked harder than us and we didn't really cause the keeper any great concern."

Shock Horror, again. Saints win 3 games!
Ipswich 0-3 Southampton
Two goals from Jason Euell and one from substitute Matthew Paterson secured an impressive victory for Southampton that severely dents Ipswich's promotion bid.
Euell headed home an Andrew Surman free-kick for his first before capitalising on a Pim Balkestein mistake to slot home his second.
Paterson drove in from the edge of the box to complete the rout.
Saints also had headers from Jan-Paul Saeijs and Chris Perry disallowed by referee Andy D'Urso for fouls.

Back to normal Saints lose!
Birmingham 1-0 Southampton
Keith Fahey's goal just before half-time handed promotion-chasing Birmingham victory against struggling Southampton at St Andrew's.
Fahey scored what proved to be the winner when he drilled in Cameron Jerome's clever ball from the left.
Blues also went close when striker Scott Sinclair hit the post in the closing stages.
Southampton rarely tested the Birmingham goal, although Jason Euell had his lob cleared off the line.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish:
"The last four days have been excellent. The players have responded to the challenge.
"We have wasted some good opportunities but we are still in a strong challenging position and I am proud of them. The back five were rock solid.
"No-one should forget we have lost key players for long parts of the season and we have been hard done by."
Southampton manager Mark Wotte:
"What concerned me was conceding a goal just before half-time.
"We cannot concede a goal like that after they had played for 10 minutes with only 10 men when Lee Carsley was off the field.
"Birmingham are a strong side but we were not strong enough up front to score a goal. Now I have to lift the side for the two home games against QPR and Derby."

Southampton 1-1 Derby
Relegation-threatened Southampton were denied a vital win by a late Steve Davies equaliser for Derby.
The Rams missed a number of chances before Chris Perry put Saints ahead when he smashed in a shot from six yards after Jason Euell's knock-down.
Andrew Surman had a great chance to double Saints' lead but shot wide.
And the home side paid the price when Martin Albrechtsen played Davies through on goal and he produced a neat finish to level on 83 minutes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton manager Mark Wotte:
"That was a great opportunity but I do not want to blame Andrew too much because he has been fantastic for us this season.
"But today was not his best game for us and I think he is suffering from fatigue like a lot of our players.
"We were the only team playing to win until we scored and then Derby began to come forward and change their system to play with two attackers.
"Derby's was a sloppy goal. I cannot blame my defenders either because they were outstanding for most of the match and deserved better."
Derby manager Nigel Clough:
"We are not out of trouble yet by any means and the situation at the bottom of the table is so tight it will take more than 50 points to be sure of safety.
"That is one defeat in the last eight games which is a lovely run and good for our confidence.
"We only started playing after we had gone a goal behind and that is disappointing.
"When Southampton scored, it seemed to spur us into action and in the end we might even have got all three points if Davies' shot had gone in."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ive been away on holiday so no reports for a while.
Saints V QPR.
I attended this game, spoke to someone who I know fro the webiste. He did not want to say much to me, and seemed surprised when I said hello. So I'm notsure I'm going to bother any more trying to speak to him, should I see him again.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw. Saints havng more of the chances, and seemed to come alive more when Bradley Wright -Phillips came on. I did hear a few boos when he came on.
After the match back to the car, and back to Winchester.
Last game played
Blackpool 1 Saints .
A very dubious penalty for Blackpool. Saints caught up 1 point on Notts Forest whao are now in the bottom 3.
I still think Saints will go down this season. If they do how many will stll go to matches?

Southampton 2-3 Charlton
Racon (left) is congratulated by fellow scorer Bailey
Financially troubled Southampton's Championship survival hopes were dealt a massive blow as they were beaten at home by bottom club Charlton.
Jonjo Shelvey ran clear to score for Charlton but David McGoldrick levelled for Saints with a low shot.
Charlton's Tresor Kandol had a penalty saved before Therry Racon's 20-yard drive did give the away side the lead.
Nicky Bailey scored a third for the visitors and a Bradley Wright-Phillips goal for Saints made it a tense finish.
Before the game, Saints' major shareholder Leon Crouch and former manager Lawrie McMenemy urged fans to continue giving their support to the crisis-hit club, whose parent company - Southampton Leisure Holdings plc - went into administration on Thursday.
Whilst the Saints should avoid a 10-point penalty from the Football League as the club themselves are not in administration, their future remains in jeopardy, with more than £30m of debt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton boss Mark Wotte:
"This is the worst result we can have against a team who are bottom of the league and in front of a big crowd.
"We got carried away and there was too much spirit and not enough football.
"We will never give up and I'm still positive we can stay up with six games to go."
Charlton manager Phil Parkinson:
"These are two great clubs who were very highly thought of a few years ago but have fallen on difficult times.
"We will not give up until it is mathematically impossible for us to avoid relegation."

Southampton FC
The holding company (Southampton Leisure Holdings) went into administration 2/4/09. This would appear not to break Football League rules, which state that a Club going into administration should have 10 points deducted as a penalty. However, on Tuesday 7/07/09 the League meet, and no doubt this will come up. So Saints could be deducted 10 points, possibly next season. Having said that it could well be there will be no Southampton FC after this season, as the administrator has said that the club must find fresh funds before the season ends. So we could be bankrupt. There are some interested parties, looking at the situation. The City Council is rumoured to be considering purchasing the stadium, and leasing it back. At present £27M is owed to Norwich Union for the stadium, and £4m owed to Barclays Bank as an overdraft. Norwich Union may accept a figure below the amount owed, as they did with Ipswich. Matt Le Tissier said today he is in talks with the administrator on Monday to 'see if there is anything he can do, to help'.
If Southampton do go bankrupt and cease as a Club, this series of conversations will cease. I will leave them here for future historians, but not come back. I will even change my 'log in' name! I will finish with football.

Saints 76 Posted Apr 8, 2009
The FA is going to consider the legal situation over the holding company going into administration. I thiunk the end result will be 10 points deducted. I think maybe next season as well. That is if there is a Southampton FC next season. Meanwhile here is the last game played by Saints, I think Saints will finish the season. But after that?
Watford 2-2 Southampton
Southampton centre-back Jan-Paul Saeijs hit a stunning last-minute equaliser to earn them a point away at Watford.
The big defender slammed in a fabulous free-kick from 25 yards to net a draw for the relegation-threatened Saints.
Saeijs had put them ahead early on by heading in Ryan Smith's corner, before Aleksandrs Cauna's low shot squirmed under Kelvin Davis as Watford levelled.
They went ahead when Tamas Priskin headed home Jobi McAnuff's corner, only for Saeijs to pop up late on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watford boss Brendan Rodgers:
"We won't go down, there is no question about that.
"I'm looking upwards, and we want to finish as high as we can and get some momentum to take into next season.
"We weren't at our best, but I was pleased with our character. Earlier this season, we would have lost."
Southampton boss Mark Wotte:
"Footballers are human beings and they are affected (by the financial situation).
"We had a very honest meeting on Sunday, and I realised some of the players are really badly affected.
"Tonight they showed they can deal with it and stay focused, and our experienced players will help us through. No one doubts we can stay up."

Wolves 3-0 Southampton
Andy Keogh and Chris Perry battle for possession
Sam Vokes, Jody Craddock and David Jones scored in the first 19 minutes as Wolves secured an easy win to edge closer to Premier League promotion.
Struggling Southampton, needing a win to move out of the relegation places, went behind after 32 seconds when Vokes headed home Jones' corner.
Wolves extended their lead five minutes later with Craddock heading Jones' cross into the back of the net.
Jones then converted from the spot for 3-0 after David Edwards was fouled.
Vokes, Andy Keogh and substitute Marlon Harewood all went close to netting a fourth.
Wolves' victory - their first at home to Southampton since 1979 - extended their lead at the top of the Championship to five points.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy:
"It's three points. It means I can enjoy a bottle of beer tonight and watch everybody else.
"For today, for this evening, it's taken the pressure off me and my players and it's heaped it somewhere else - whoever fancies it they can have it.
"It could have been really over and done with in the first half. We broke on a number of times but we weren't really clinical."
Southampton coach Mark Wotte on his team's start:
"It throws away all the preparations. We knew that Wolves would be on fire after their performance against Birmingham so we told them to be very aggressive at the beginning of the match.
"We expected Wolves like they came, but if you don't win your headers and don't attack the ball then it's already a very difficult game.
"After 20 minutes they get the penalty and it's 3-0, and it's more or less game over.
"I'm just blaming my team for not dealing with set-pieces better than they did."

Southampton 1-0 Crystal Palace
David McGoldrick's second-half strike sealed a vital victory for Southampton and kept their hopes of Championship survival alive.
McGoldrick found the top corner of the net with a superb strike from outside of the area to secure the points.
Palace keeper Julian Speroni had kept Southampton at bay denying Bradley Wright-Phillips on several occasions.
Late on Shefki Kuqi's last-gasp effort was blocked on the line as Southampton held on for the three points.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton boss Mark Wotte:
"The boys showed 100% commitment and are fighting for their lives.
"The players do not deserve to go down and nor do the supporters.
"We are two points from safety with three games to go and we still have Nottingham Forest to play so it is in our own hands. Three wins will keep us up."
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock:
"We could have been playing all night and not scored. We did not have enough quality.
"The fans know how hard I work to get the points, and I think we have done really well with the squad we have.

Two more games to go after the report below. I think Saints will be relegated. We may also lose 10 popints, that is if the Club actually survives.
Sheff Wed 2-0 Southampton
On-loan striker Luke Varney scored a brace to give Sheffield Wednesday victory against struggling Southampton.
Saints defender Jan-Paul Saeijs gave the ball away to Francis Jeffers and his pass released Varney to score.
After another defensive error Varney nipped in, rounded keeper Kelvin Davis and rolled the ball into an empty net.
Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant saved brilliantly from Jason Euell shortly before the break and Adam Lallana went close in the second half for Saints.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton manager Mark Wotte on the club's financial problems:
"The insecurity isn't helping the players. If a club's struggling it's not going to help on the pitch.
"But individual players are concerned about their future and it's better to have a secure future so they can play with more confidence.
"But that's the way it is at Southampton Football Club. That makes my job more difficult of course because you have to deal not only with the football, but also a lot of things around it."
Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws on the commemoration of the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster:
"On Wednesday at six minutes past three I've never felt so low in a long time and on the Thursday it brought things back.
"The supporters gave a fantastic minute's silence there.
"It's still very raw, a lot of people are still very angry. It was a fitting tribute to them."
