Whisky

Might be worth explaining what Jägermeister is... I for one have never heard of it or tasted it.

Oh, I have smiley - drunk mmm, student days, I remember them well. Actually, no I don't. And it's all Mr Meisters fault! smiley - laugh

I agree though, a little bit more about the drink would be good, I know you've linked, but just a brief synopsis.

Um, is 'theatricality' a word? Why not just theatrics?

And capitalise researcher smiley - smiley

Great stuff, I like it very much, I must try one of these one day!

Gnomon - time to move on

That Jägermeister website seems to be a dodgy one. When I click on the UK link it just causes my browser to bomb out. So I don't think the BBC will want a link to it in the Edited Guide. Can you find a better website? Or just explain to us what Jägermeister is.

Is the whole subject matter inadvisable? If so, then we may need to treat this as carefully as we do with other similar entries.

It's interesting though, and deserves to be in the guide. smiley - ok

I had to put in a 'valid' date of birth before it'd let me into any of the international sites Gnomon...

hmm, the website is the official one and I had no problems, after entering my country and date of birth. smiley - erm

Is it a herb-flavoured vodka?

I see no problem with the Entry content Icy - after all we have Entries on other cocktails (and beers, and spirits, and all things that get you drunk).

The author has not condoned drinking it in large quantities either, so we should be fine smiley - ok

If you don't fill in your age at the bottom, but just click on the UK at the top, the site bombs out crashing your browser. I don't consider that acceptable.

I must admit though, I HAD to turn off the sound on the website. Ack, that WAS irritating. smiley - laugh

Hmm, that might be your browser, just tried it with both Firefox and IE7, and I get zero response unless I put in a DoB - but it doesn't crash on my system.

um, Gnomon, when you click the UK link all you do is change the nationality of the website you enter once you put in your age. The picture of the bottle of the left? You click UK and the flag underneath will change. If you want a different nation the flag will change accordingly. Then enter your DOB and nation, and Enter as normal.

It is the Official website, so I don't see why there would be a problem in linking to it.

Although, as Whisky said, a little explanation of the stuff would do wonders anyway laura smiley - ok

If I try to access the site without giving my DoB a little window pops up telling me to give my DoB first - that's all that happens. On the other hand, without that, there's no information at all, so an explanation would be better than that link, imo.

Here's what I did: I clicked on the words United Kingdom beside the little picture of the Union Flag. Internet Explorer (6) gave an application error and crashed.

The site works ok in Firefox, but I still don't consider it acceptable.

I tried that, too, Gnomon, and nothing happened. (IE 6)

Maybe it's a question of your other settings? Anyway, I could enter any date that would make me seem old enough even if I wasn't, so I can't see the advantage of that request.

hmm. The site may have some bugs, but I don't think the 'acceptability' of the official website to one person is grounds to remove the link smiley - smiley

Anyway, it's just an aside, hopefully the Entry is enough to enjoy without clicking away to other places, another reason to add a brief description of the drink in the Entry itself smiley - ok

All you need is a few quick lines laura - for those uninitiated smiley - winkeye

External links are supposed to be to stable non-commercial websites, where this one is to a dodgy commercial site.

Can we leave the issue of the link alone now, and concentrate on the Entry? Too many times I've seen PR descend into unnecessary arguments about subjects not important to the Entry.

If it is a problem, I'm sure when this is picked either a sub-editor or the italics will remove the link if it proves to be such a problem. smiley - smiley

I want the author to provide a description of the drink, rather than relying on the link. That is a comment about the content of the entry, and will not be possible for the sub-editor or the Eds to provide.
