A Conversation for Talking Point: Sexy Songs
Sexy songs vs. Romantic songs
broelan Started conversation Jun 2, 2004
Lots of songs are romantic, I'm sure more than half the recorded music in existence has something to do with romance in some way, shape or form. It takes a little something extra to make a song truly sexy though, to make you feel sexy, or want to feel sexy. It has to have just the right kind of music perfectly paired with just the right lyrics.
Off the top of my head I would say that 'Goodbye' by Dave Matthews Band and 'Pearl of Euphoria' by Def Leppard are probably two of the sexiest songs I know. There are more, if I think of any I'll add them to the list.

If I want to get 'In The Mood' I play the Blues, I know weird woman but it works for me, especially Need your love by Fleetwood Mac

I suppose it depends on the effect that the song has on you...I mean, a romantic song can make you feel all silly and giggly (or whatever) and a sexy song makes you feel...well...like getting closer to someone...
I suppose the best example I can come up with is "Something" by the Beatles...for a lot of people it's just a really sweet, "romantic" song...but there's something in the lilt and energy that just makes me......
Whereas there are songs that aren't romantic at all that still give you that kind of feeling.......

A blues rift will do it for me

the blues are definitely sexy, just look at some of the lyrics. The original meaning of rock and roll comes thru when you hear anyone from Robert Plant to Robert Johnson put their soul into singing:
'rock me baby, rock me all night long'

Everyone says that Soul is sexy, they should have a listen to Muddy Waters and JL Hooker

Or JL Hooker's "Ahh'm in the Mooooooood, in the mood for lurrrrrrrrrrve" I once had a tape with him doing a duet of I'm the mood with Bonnie Raitt, that was sooooooooooooooo sexy

That duo with Bonnie Raitt is on John Lee's "The Healer" CD. However, Bonnie has turned out some pretty sexy stuff in her own right. Check out "Feeling of falling" or "I can't make you love me".
I agree with the folk who think that the blues is the sexiest music. My unscientific take on it is that the blues is 25% about getting it, 70% about not getting it and 5% about meeting the devil in a graveyard at midnite or having hellhounds on your trail.
Of the 25%, try "Don't be afraid of the dark" by Robert Cray. If that doesn't work, take his advice and try some Marvin Gaye. I know it's not blues, but it's more democratic not to get stuck in a rut. Whoops!

Yeh I reckon there is a big difference between romantic songs and sexy songs. After all, romance is generally the genre. Some 'romantic' songs are truly cringeworthy and not sexy at all. However, a song can be sexy for all sorts of reasons. The singer's voice for a start... Jeff Buckley (he could make any song sexy, especially 'The Last Goodbye', even though it's about breaking up), Rob Thomas (of Matchbox 20), Adam Levine (of Maroon 5) spring to mind in particular at this moment in time. Rob Thomas sings in the song 'Push' "I wanna push you around... I wanna take you for granted". The right bloke could push me arund and take me for granted as much as he wanted to if that song was playing hehe
