what a pity, surely for the guide to act as a guide in the real sense it should be available wherever you are, which means either lugging a pc or laptop about unless you get it wapped up.
LETS GET SOME WAP ACTION GOING!

I wonder how big the entire H2G2 database is. Could it be put onto a Cassiopea or some other palmtop device with lots of extra memory and get synched on an 'as and when' basis?
And if so, can you get Palmtops with "Don't Panic" written across them?

I agree. It's a shame to lose the WAP access. I've just bought my first WAP phone, just a bit too late it appears. I've read about services which will convert HTML pages to WML so they can be accessed on a WAP phone. I haven't been able to find one, but if there's one out there somewhere I wonder whether it could be used to access H2G2?

You should be able to set up something like AvantGo to download a good chunk on the stuff you might want to a Palm/Pocket PC. I hadn't thought of trying it, but I may give this a go.
If anyone else is interested, you need to go to www. avantgo .com (hope that "link" stays in place) to get the software.
(I have to admit that I've only been using this service for about a week, so I can't say how good/bad it is.)

There's a HTML to WAP translator at Google and it works quite well with H2G2 although you can only read, you can't search or post. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A627464 for details.
