I remember the Wednesday night binges well. I ran Cross Country in the winter and steeplechase in the summer. It always amazed me in the winter time how on a Wednesday it was those of us who had just run as fast as we could for 5 miles of mud, wind and snow always had the cheapest nights, as the nature of the exercise meant we were more likely to get intoxicated and fell worse earlier.

I don't drink so getting intoxicated was not really an option for me. It was much better fun watching all my mates make fools of themselves!! I had a good time celebrating as I have a habit of getting hyperactive from Pepsi and at a place like Loughborough most Wednesday nights are celebratory hence we are always in a party mood!

There were times I found matching pint of Coke for pint of beeer lead to the same effects. But I wasn't a heavy drinker in those days, and now I'm back training regulary I'm not a heavy drinker again, there is only so much the body can overcome if you are trying to maintain any level of fitness.
