For things that are not listed in the Style Guide, is there a common reference style guide we should be using? For example, biblical quotations - different style guides will have (Mar 4:8) (Mk 4.8) or (Mark 4:8, 4.8), Matt. or Mt., Lk or Luk, etc. Is there a community preferred reference source for this type of citation and others not yet listed? I noted some Guide entries, mostly not Edited, on the Bible that had citations, and they vary in their usages. Thanks!

Hi Valiere, there's only the Subeditor's style guide (that you've already found), and it's only compulsory for entries that are in the Edited Guide, or heading for it. In other entries, you can do as you please.
Is your 'Jesus according to the Gospels' entry heading for the EG? Personally, I don't like abbrev. very much, and thus I'd opt for Mark, not Mk in Edited Entries - but as bible quotations are not mentioned in the style guide it's up to you. Just don't add any dots to abbreviations.

Thanks SchrEck. I'm so used to having to follow Oxford, Chicago, or Harvard, that I get a little woozy if let out of the cage. It would be nice to have a standard for textual references in footnotes, though. Yes, I'd like it to be EG, if it makes the cut. Still working on it. Took out dots in abbrvs

I've had a quick re-read, and it looks great - I think it's definitely EG-worthy. I could have a closer look (read: nitpicking session) if you want to, just say so when you're finished. And sorry for mis-spelling your name.

Thanks. It'll be a few days. Fell asleep over Luke last night, and am still cross-referencing, re-reading, and looking up some alternative criticisms. I'd love a nitpicking session. I'll let you know when the first draft's up. What I have there now is just a test to make sure my GuideML was right - I'm a newbie.
V. (not my name, so no offense taken).
