From Bristol. A part of Massive Attack's first two albums (Blue Lines and Protection). Done some solo work, including remixing Milk by Garbage. Had a small part in The Fifth Element.
No, never heard of him smiley - winkeye

Ok, Ok, can never tell what people will miss. With so much out there it's easy to overlook something. Nice to know somebody out there noticed. Most of my associates have absolutly no idea who Tricky is.smiley - smiley

Wouldn't have called him part of the acid-house scene though smiley - smiley.
That was more like D Mob (featuring Gary Houseman) doing 'We call it Acieed' from back in 89/90, raves, techno, seccond summer of love and all that...

I agree, not quite Acid House, but if you like Acid House, then likely you'll think Tricky is good. As witnessed by previous conversation.

I do think that some of Tricky's stuff is just way too dark for my liking, but his masterpiece has to be his cover of Public Enemy's Black Steel.

I quite like that one myself, but I think I like the stuff on Pre Millennium Tension better. But I think some of the tracks on Angels with Dirty Faces are a bit too socially aware. To stray even further from Acid House, what do you think of Beck?

Beck, hmm, eclectic.
I've heard most of his more mainstream stuff and it's quite enjoyable.
I'd like to hear more of those albums he does, just because he can - where he doesn't do it for acolades.

His first album Mellow Gold (was it his first album) was quite hard to listen to though.

Mellow Gold was his first popular album. The earliest Beck I've got (I think)is called Steriopathetic Soulmanure. It has got this truly odd track called "Satan Gave Me A Taco" on it. Also features four minutes of silence and bonus noise. There is another album called "One Foot In The Grave". Both of these albums were recorded sometime between 1988 and 1994. The music is less evolved than his sound on Mellow Gold. Beck didn't really get his sound together until the one after Mellow Gold.(in my humble opinion) I think they are both fun though.

I'd not heard about the stuff from before Mellow Gold. I agree that his stuff since then is what has made him noticed here in the UK.

I do have a copy of the CD single of Loser with the wonderful little ditty MTV Makes Me Want To Smoke Crack as one of the B-sides (Hmmm, you can't reall get B-sides on a cd can you smiley - smiley)

Now that is a Beck song I've never heard. I've heard one called I think "Mexico", which tells the story of a bungled holdup of a fast food franchise and the subsequent flight to Mexico. I can't seem to find a copy of it anywhere, but my local radio station has played it occasionally. I think one of the DJs owns it though, because they can never seem to find it when I call to request it. MTV Makes Me Want To Smoke Crack sounds yummy. I'd like to hear it. I will search for it.
