You asked whether there was a reference to a cup or grail in Moorcock's writings. Yes, another incarnation of the Eternal Champion, Von Bek, was on a quest to find the Holy Grail for the Devil (IIRC). I don't remember much else except that he picked up a young sidekick whose name began with S along the way - he thought S wouldn't be able to follow him where he was going, and when he did he believed that must mean that S was already damned like him.

Hi Ekaterin

Still looking for the von Bek references you kindly provided - apart from the name these are unfamiliar references to me.

I did find, on taking down and re-reading "Phoenix in Obsidian", that the whole of the latter part of the book is to do with what Wiccans call the "Great Rite" -the marriage of Athane and Chalice - and I thought "however did I miss this?"

Also, the second trilogy of Corum is a re-working of Irish and welsh myths and legends, so I'm sure there's a refeence to the Cauldron of Bran in there - the legendary Cauldron of Plenty that revives the dead and staves off famine, hopefully not both at once...

From Wikipedia, the titles of the Von Bek novels were:

The War Hound and the World's Pain
The Brothel in Rosenstrasse
The City in the Autumn Stars

Does that help at all? I believe that the Eternal Champion series was reprinted not too long ago and volume 1 of this reprinting contained all the Von Bek novels and stories.

hanks - I'll start hunting these!

Is the article geting too wordy and philosophical, btw? It feels like there's still a lot of ground to cover and there's already a forbidding amount of text for any Moorcock reader to get through!
