Hello I barely have time to post this, but here goes nothing.
Your first two posts strike me as an issue of preference of style. So I'm going to ignore them.
The last paragraph will stay, I think. I didn't write the last paragraph. It belongs to a finer writer than I, one who isn't around to defend it. It's not entirely relevant, I admit, but it seems more compelling to me than the rest of the entry. A small price to pay, I'd say.
Once again, I beg patience. I'll get around to Gnomon's corrections as soon as things settle down in real life

LeoAlpha,
What has slavery to do with the Statue of Liberty? Everything!

I'm still not 100% happy with the sentence about the Colossus of Rhodes. I think it would read better if you dropped the phrase "as it did".

And with that, the Statue of Liberty update is accepted. Thanks to everyone for their contributions...

Thanks to those with the corrections and of course, Bels, who inspired me to make a decent entry out of an inadequate one.
Good to see this over and done with.
