Gnomon - time to move on

Hi Shagrath! This is looking very good now.smiley - ok

I've a few little comments:

1. Your footnote about everything being the other way round for left-handed guitarists is a bit odd, as the tabs are exactly the same for left-handed guitarists. I think think it would be better to move the footnote to the first place where you mention right hand or left hand.

2. You say the internet is "just about the only place" where tabs are available. But most popular music books for guitar have tabs.

3. You use a few Americanisms which should be changed to the appropriate Britishisms. Feel free to leave the Americanisms as footnotes:

on bottom --> at the bottom

measure breaks --> bar lines

with the pick --> with the plectrum

Ah now Gnomon, the others are right but who says "plectrum" now? I thought it went out with "gramophone".

"A new series of compositions for plectrum guitar by Ivor Mairants" -- 1958 or so.

I wouldn't say that ~R. I like and use the term 'plectrum'. It makes guitar playing sound so scientific smiley - winkeye. Also I would probably confuse pick and pick-up. Would you at least consider including 'plectrum' in a footnote?

Well maybe you still use "plectrum", nothing wrong with it. In fact it has a distingushed history, it was used as the Latin translation of the word "bow" in the 1665 edition of Christopher Simpson's "The Division Viol, or The Art of Playing Ex tempore upon a Ground". A ground-breaking book. I knew you really needed to know that.smiley - smiley

I'll add "plectrum" in a footnote - never heard this term before but it does sound cool.

Another thing - I noticed that with other browsers, like Mozilla FireFox, the text doesn't show up as monospaced font. Is there another way to do this perhaps?

Well, I may be a bit out of touch, but I'd never heard the term "pick" until I started reading entries on h2g2.

h2g2 auto-messages

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
