I had this floating around in Writers Workshop for a while, but got no comments. I don't see anything missing from it, but any feedback welcome. Please

Wow, Severa - for a first effort this is really fantastic!
There are a few things you could do to clean it up for the Sub Editors though, if you like. We try to make their workload as light as possible http://www.h2g2.com/h2g2/skins/Alabaster/images/Smilies/f_smiley.gif" />.
If you'd like to have a go at formatting your entry in GuideML there are lots of us who could help. Your entry is laid out quite simply, so it would mainly be adding paragraph and subheader tags, and of course making the web site references into links. You can find more information on this at A155701.
Short of that there are a few things you could do to simplify the plain text so that it would be easier for the Sub to convert. The character codes are unneccessary, you can just type the character you want. Also you could turn the web page references into links simply by adding http:// before the www.
This is nice work! I'm sure it's destined for the front page!

Thank you, Miloso. Clear-up in progress!

Hmmm, I wrote GuideML as best I could, and it looked fine when I previewed it, but when I updated the entry the tags reappeared. Is that supposed to happen?

In the edit screen below the text box there is an option to format your entry in Plain Text or GuideML. Make sure the radio button for GuideML is checked before you update.
If the GuideML is checked and you're still seeing tags in an update there's an error in your code somewhere. If you scroll down the screen the error will be noted in red with a suggestion of sorts on how to fix it.
Did this help?

I was going to suggest the same thing.
If I were you - as well as making sure you've got the GuideML option checked, I would go through and check that each has a corresponding , etc.

Glancing it over it appears that your first several paragraphs (everything prior to 'Examples') are all lacking paragraph tags. This could be the problem.

I tried adding paragraph tags, but it made no diference. The only error pointed out is at the very end, where it says, next to "bad closing, element BODY expecting P". I tried fiddling around wih it, adding P's and taking them and away and shifting stuff around, but nill. I haven't felt this dumb since grade school. Help?

RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted May 8, 2004
I think the parser itself has given an inappropriate error message; the problem seems to be that you have a '<' in there (a typo?), which the parser interprets as the start of a tag. Try removing the '<' from 'go < some that you like'.

Please don't feel 'dumb'! It took me AGES to figure out GuideML and there are still things that mystify me.
I've asked a Guru to come have a look, I'm sure they'll be able to spot the problem.

According to Croz, RFJS is right, it's the errant bracket in the first paragraph after the 'Examples' subheader. I think it's replacing the word 'for'. If that doesn't fix it just holler.

Oh, you never know.
By the way, if you want to link the word 'manga' to the Anime and Manga Entry (which a Sub-Ed might anyway), it's at A487604.

Looks great
A couple of typos (for lack of anything more dramatic to criticise ):
In the Economy section there is an extra 'e': >>the sale e of merchandise<<
In the College Roomies description there is an extra space: >>it has , as stated<<
For Bruno the Bandit your description starts on the same line as the title, the others all start on the next line.
That should just about do it...

There's no mention of Megatokyo, though. Which, being a fan thereof, I distinctly note the absence of.

Thanks Miloso - typos cleared.
And Geggs, a confession - I don't read Megatokyo. I'm sorry. I know I should, its been recomended ever so often. Please, if you would, start another thread and recomend Megatokyo, or any other webcomic - it would make the entry a lot better. And congrats on the engagement

Geggs Posted Jul 16, 2004
I've occasionally tried to write an entry on Megatokyo, but I've never been very happy with the results.
It might be easier to write once this entry getting into the Guide - I'll have something to refer to!
