Pickled walnuts

I am the only person in a very wide circle of colleagues who loves pickled walnuts. Someone else must like them, as the supermarket shelves have lots. Or are there lots left because I am the only person eating them?
(in case you didn't know, the nuts are picked, still in their soft fleshy "packaging" before the shell has started to form. They can be eaten as they are, or soaked in pickling vinegar and then eaten, which is how I like them. Be warned, at all stages in their life span they are capable of staining anything they contact a dark brown colour.)

I *love* pickled walnuts BuskingBob, they are totally fab.
I eat them with cold turkey or ham mainly. Some years they are better than others, I believe they have a good seasons and bad seasons. Some years they are better than others...

I'd never heard of these. They sound intriguing. Where might one purchase them in the UK? (I really do plan to visit some day!)

Most supermarkets should stock pickled walnuts; Tescos has them in the same general area as pickled red cabbage and gherkins. I would guess that any decent deli would have them as well.
As Peta says, they are delicious with cold meats, particularly turkey and ham (proper home cooked ham, spiked with cloves, then glazed mmmmmm). You can either slice them or eat them whole if they are small enough. Take the warning about getting any juice on your clothes very seriously! The stain will usually wash out after a few washes!

Cool! If/when I get to England, I may have difficulties explaining to the family why I want to run off to a deli to get pickled walnuts, though. They do sound delightful!
Thanks for the info!
Coopers Oxford Marmalade
BuskingBob Posted Jan 31, 2000
When I was working aboraod I used to pine for Frank Coopers Coarse Cut Oxford Marmalade. This is something that you really must try when you visit! It is dark and mysterious with large chunks of near crystallized oranges. The texture is like no other confection I know; you don't actually spread it on your toast because it is so chunky. Rather, you re-arrange it so that you know you are going to taste some with every bite. It may be an acquired taste, as it is not sweet enough for some people. I think this was why I started buying it, because the children would never eat it!
For a little bit of heaven, eat it with ice-cream. This only works well with good quality ice cream!
