The New Ely, Cathays - great atmosphere on match days.
The Rummer Tavern, opposite the castle - good atmosphere, used to be one of the best pints of Guinness in Cardiff.
The Westgate - over the other side of the bridge from town, over the river from the National stadium. Packed on match days, and a good atmosphere, but don't expect a seat.
The Fly Half & Firkin (used to be the Queen's Vaults) - south end of Westgate street. Again, good atmosphere on match days, and they used to have a large Jenga set too!
The Ship Inn - between St Mary St & Westgate St. Not a great pub, and a bit cramped. However, it had the star factor of seeing Ryan Giggs' dad propping up the bar every weekend.
The Royal George / Clancy's - Death Junction, Cathays, on the corner of Mackintosh Place and Crwys Rd. Good atmosphere with good Guinness, and just across the road from the Roath Tandoori!
The Old Arcade - off St Mary St. A proper old-fashioned man's pub. Black & white tiled floors, smoky atmosphere, and fantastic Brain's SA. And an old man in the corner dishing out tenners...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
