Someones' Gotta Go First!

I submitted this as my first article......rejected, of course! I realise you'd prefer accepted articles, but I've only got one accepted.....and I'm not quite ready to get ridiculed for it just yet! Maybe if I ever get a second one under my belt, I'll present my worst one for review!smiley - winkeye

Fish ponds. Goldfish Ponds. Chinese Gardens. Whatever you call them, they are just a hole in the ground. A hole in the ground, filled with water. And a few fish. Oh, and maybe a plant or two for affect.
Then the insects come. Lots of insects. Little ones, big ones, ugly ones......pretty ones. Dragonflies; no other insect is that beautiful. And the fish eat them. Not all of them, so the frogs come to help out.

Noisy creatures, these. Grandaddy bullfrogs, tiny tree frogs and a curious toad now and then. One or two varieties I've never seen before. Perhaps home aquarium escapees. And still there are plenty of insects, for the plants have grown, and give good shelter for them. So the turtles come.

Long snouted mudders, The vicious snapper with the boxxers laying on the sidelines, as if to cheer them on.And they eat the insects....and some of the fish, but not many. And the birds come.

Oh, the spectical! So many kinds of birds. so many colors and sounds...and personalities! And the birds eat and drink and try to avoid the cat (who just loves to play chase with them). Then the dog comes for a swim.

The cat scampers for safety while the birds take to the sky. The turtles, frogs and fish dive for the safety of the depths, the insects retreat to the comfort of the foilage.

And the old gardener steps up, looks on the sight, and for some unknown reason, thinks he had something to do with it all.

Pitiful, ain't it!...NM

Dragonfly. "A poet can survive everything but a misprint"-- Oscar Wilde

Thanks for the compliment about dragonflies being the prettiest of all insects... smiley - smiley

Very true about humankind... and how we think we have sooo much to do with nature... stomping around in our boots like that... who do we think we are!?? smiley - winkeye
