I believe that the Pilgrims sailed from Plymouth, England, not Boston, England. The Pilgrims first went to Holland, but did not like the idea of their children growing up Dutch. Since they could not return to England, they sailed for the New World with the idea of settling at an already established colony. Due to navigational problems they ended up off the coast of what is now Cape Cod. Since they were totally lost, the Pilgrims were forced into building their own settlement. The location chosen was at the top of Cape Cod(a fairly long drive from Boston along Rt 3 South). The Pilgrims named this settlement after their home port of Plymouth, England.
Today, Plymouth, Massachusetts thrives from tourism. There are several points of interest in Plymouth devoted to the Pilgrims. These points include Plymouth Rock, the Wax Museum, Plymouth Plantation, and a replica of the Mayflower. Plymouth Plantation and the Mayflower are of particular interest since they are "living" museums. Actors portray Pilgrim and Indian life in the village and on the ship.
In regards to, "the copycat small town in the USA", I wouldn't exactly call Boston, MA a small town. In addition to being the capital of Massachusetts, it is also a center for education, scientific research, and technological development for the world.
The rest of the article was very interesting and informative.
