The tsunami that followed the Japanese earthquake of March 11th, 2011 occurred on the same calendar date that the Dale Dyke Dam burst (though the Sheffield disaster crossed midnight, and so many sources date it March 12th).
The coincidence shocked me a little. I have been re-reading Harrison's account, and his descriptions of the sea of wreckage echo the television pictures today. I had never until now properly imagined the scene of devestation that Harrison recounted. Now I think I understand, and this Entry no longer seems like hyperbole. Simple water can indeed be as unstoppable and destructive as any force in nature.
