Eusebio - squad number 11

I recently found my old footy Top Trumps cards, and realised that shirts in the late 70s, early 80s were awful!!!
What is the worst shirt ever? ... it'll take a lot to top the chocolate brown Coventry City away kit of the late 70s!!

One horror that sticks in my mind is a Huddersfield Town away kit from a few years ago with yellow and black checked shirts, which I think must have been designed to give the opposition eye-strain. smiley - bigeyes
Mind you, we've not looked our best at Bradford these past two seasons. Our colours are meant to be claret and amber - rich, deep purple and gold colours. Unfortunately, our kit manufacturers came up with pale, washed-out versions of those colours, so the current strip has been nicknamed "the rhubarb and custard kit". smiley - sadface

Is mise Duncan

We had exactly the same thing, only v.v. when we played in the AIG Europe competition. The colours were meant to be those of the Irish flag, white shorts, green tops for the outfield players and an orange top for me.
Unfortunately the shirts were dyed with whatever chemical is used to make highlighter pens. In the direct sunshine of southern Germany it was actually painfull to look directly at a fellow team member.
smiley - cool

And no, the smiley - stout had nothing to do with this smiley - winkeye

Arsenal, 1991, Tyre Tracks away shirt.

Roma (?) 1995, shirts with a pattern uncannily like swastikas. The design was later changed.

Luton, 1988 (?) pink away shirt.

That awful Norwich shirt of the nineties that looked like the players had been eating peas and then thrown up all down the front?

I was prretty appalled yesterday when I saw Barnsley's away shirts.
Flourescent lime green with black sleeves! smiley - yuk

Were they similar to the awful shirts Borussia Dortmund when they beat Man Ure?
I suppose you can forgive disgusting tops if a team beats Man Ure!!!

Yes, pretty similar, except that I seem to recall Dortmund's shirts being lurid yellow rather than lime green. smiley - yuk
I entirely agree with your comments about ManUre - and it's nice to know that I can have another trip to Manchester with Bradford next season! smiley - laugh

What about the Notts County Tartan away kit, awful. Still at least they didn't go the full hog and make them wear kilts smiley - smiley

By far it must be the goalie top that John "I can't keep goal for toffee" Lukic wore for Leeds in their last League Cup Final loss (Against Aston Villa, Savo Milosovic scored and Villa won 3-1 I think).
The shirt looked like a bile orange colour with red, green blue, black and yellow thin stripes going across it in every direction.

I remember a friend of mine had heard the new kit was out (he was a Leeds fan and a goalkeeper, probably better than JL) and rushed to his local JJB to buy it. When he got there he saw the shirt and decided it wasn't worth his money. It's the only Leeds goalkeeper top he doesn't have from the last twenty odd years. And he won't shut up about it.

oh i love it when Saints beat Man U. it just makes my day every time. i think there was a year when Saints won 3 times against them. my memory isn't the best on these facts so if i've got it slightly wrong don't blame me.

Chelsea'a orange and grey was pretty rough!

Wolves had a horrible tyre track effect for two years in the mid 90's - quite appropriate as they were sponsored by Goodyear.

Didn't Norwich have an away shirt with Raspberry swirls on the shoulder? I seem to remember that they never wore it because they were in the top flight with no other team in yellow. Where was their sense of commercial exploitation???

Sheffield United's current away kit is a bit naff. Generally gold with purple bits on it.

On the other hand our kit celebrating the 100 meeting against Wednesday is lovely. Mostly white with some red piping smiley - smiley

The Euro '96 England away keeper shirt. It looked like someone had thrown up over it. A curious and somewhat disturbing mixture of oranges, greens, reds, yellows...everything really.

This Conversation suddenly came to mind when I saw Nigeria's away shirts, as modelled in their game against Scotland. They were a sort of flourescent pastel green. Not, perhaps, the worst ever, but certainly not nice... smiley - yuk
