I will be receiving my third consecutive free copy of the Football Manager computer game this week, as I continue my role as Lancaster City researcher.

I'm not sure I'm ever going to grow out of this game, When I first bought an editions of the sold champ manager in 1997, I don't think I was expecting to still be playing the thing 15 years later. I'm not as hooked as I once was, but still I go on.

Anyone else still suffer this addiction?

I'm still playing CM01/02 for preference! I've not got the complete-series addiction because 01/02 is still regularly updated and has the best, cleanest interface (the code hackers have got it widescreen-windowed now, which looks awesome).

I've got 03-04 (rubbish), 07 (great) and 08 (not so great) knocking around, but none of them get any play.

Unless you fancy reinstating the online games that kept us amused for a few months?

I don't suppose the code hackers have developed a Mac version of it yet, have they? That's what eventually did for me with CM 01/02. I do still have a PC copy of it somewhere

Where do you get that tweaked version of 01/02 from?

I think 2006 was my last version. Partly I found it difficult to find the time to play with enough regularity and for long enough to remember what on earth I was doing and who my players are, partly finding other PC games to play, and partly finding hattrick.

Hattrick is a simpler-than-FM-but-complicated-enough-to-be-interesting online football management (or rather, football themed) "massively multi-player" game (http://www.hattrick.org/). It moves fairly slowly (one league game, one cup game/friendly, and one youth team game per week), but part of the appeal is that it's not particularly time consuming.
