VSC: Overheard on Sky last night....

"Hello, and welcome to Spurs Supports.. sorry Sky Sports... for tonight's thrilling clash between Spurs and some other team. Can Spurs break into the top four this season, do you think?"

"I think the signs are promising for them. Over the last few months, they've been getting almost as much wall-to-wall coverage as the big red teams get. We'll have a better idea after tonight's game."

"So what should Spurs be expecting from the game?"

"I think a good return for them tonight would be for the commentary team to go on and on and on about them for the whole game, barely mentioning their opponents. If they can dominate possession in the commentary box, monopolise debate with endless sob stories about being short of a few players from their massive squad of highly-paid internationals, and shut out their opponent's injury concerns from even getting a mention, they'll be well happy with that. If they can cut the supply to the fact that Spurs' opponents have only two fit strikers, they'll do well tonight"

"But we shouldn't forget Spurs' opponents.. er.... er.... er.... should we? They have aspirations of their own and won't have come here just to roll over? They'll be looking to take something from the game too?"

"They'll be looking to hit them on the break. Sneaking in the odd mention, generally patronising guff about 'industriousness' and about them being 'one of the premier league's better sides', and pointing out that it's not all doom and gloom for Spurs when ... er.... er... er... comfortably turn them over on their own turf."

"And now, back to the adverts"

Bitter much? smiley - winkeye

It's better than "and now, a seven second snippet of everything that'as happened in those other divisions. The ones we don't promote as THE BEST LEAGUE EVER(tm). *cough* Now back to a half hour special on how Rafael Benitez's new beard could galvanise Liverpool into mounting a serious title challenge."

I know it's nothing new and that it's not just Everton - when Abramovich took over at Chelsea I swear he alone had more screen time on the football highlights for longer than many "unfashionable" teams. I also remember a cup game on the BBC between Man Utd and Villa where Villa were hardly mentioned at all during the half time analysis.

Last night I did think it was just be being bitter again, but I was talking to a fan of another Premiership team on the bus this morning, and his first comment was that the coverage was a disgrace.

However, I think Leeds do fairly well in terms of media coverage, considering.....

We have to work for it! Other teams would be content to be obscure. Not us, we get an insane chairman and set out to get record breaking points deductions!

Sky's always been a disgrace. When they used to have ex players providing analysis at ManU vs Whoever games you can bet both ex-players would be ex-scummers. Then again, I suppose they have the most fans...

I'm used to it. At Charlton's match on Saturday there wasn't much indication of the fact that another team were taking part.

Im liking Sultana.....Santana........Banana......Setanta Sports as im currently getting it free, due to Richard Bransons need to make up for the lack of Sky One.

Endless reruns of the Villa/Liverpool *spits* aside you get Bundesliga, Conference, and Portugese matches to name a few. My recent obsession has been watching the youth team in the Youth Champions Cup. The commentators, who must have been pretty peeved at only getting a Man United/Inter youth fixture, spent the entire match making bad puns to do with the names Brandy and Drinkwater. Pure class.
