See both you and I know that Halo should be on there although not Halo 2.
See Halo had what Halo 2 didnt - a thrill. See you get dropped into amazing scenary shooting happily away and then it all gets a bit dark... and moody... and then it turns into a zombie game and still works. Its the 'From Dusk Till Dawn' of the computer game world.
I'd also chuck in Red Alert 2 alongside Tiberium Sun - The 'welcome back commander' thing in Tiberium is cool, but its even better in Yuris revenge...
And I'm slightly suprised you didnt put on one of the total war games (just getting into Rome total war right now, extremely addictive).
Overall though, I'd have to agree with that.

There's a couple of reasons that Tiberian Sun got in ahead of the other C&C games, and that Doom pipped Halo to the post.
RA2's fun, and it's campy and bright and it's got great replay value, but it's not a challenge! I can think of one single RA2 mission I couldn't do first time round, and that was the Navy Seal insertion team going into South America. Add on to that the fact that it's totally linear whereas all C&C games up to that point had optional missions, and it just doesn't live up to what I expected. Plus no Kane. And I do like Kane.
As for Halo vs Doom? Well, Halo 1 has superior multiplayer but a campaign that makes you want to scream (Run back through that corridor! AGAIN!) and Halo 2 has a slightly superior campaign but the multiplayer's somehow lacking (No Rally mode?). Doom's never been about multiplayer (although the original Doom was the first deathmatch I played, fond memories) but the campaign is one of only two games I've ever played that actually scared me. Plus, until the Master Chief gets a chainsaw, all Halo vs Doom arguments are moot .
For completeness sake, games that just missed out on the top 5 are:
Halo 2: It was the game of choice at the flat. Good times.
Medieval TW: Addictive, but not as addictive as Champ Manager. A good strategy game, but not as good as TibSun.
Goldeneye: Couldn't pick that ahead of Doom and Halo.
Call of Cthulhu: Scary - moreso than Doom, yet excrutiatingly irritating in parts.
Mortal Kombat 2: Most fun fighting game ever.
Morrowind: Beaten marginally by BG II, on the technicality that it contains NO miniature giant space hamsters.

No Kane? Im sure he was in it at the very end of at least one of the RA games. However I do see your point.
No question that Doom should be in over Halo/Halo 2 after all, its Doom. But I have to disagree about the campaign. Yes you do back track but thats part of the strength, because the terrain changes around you rather then you changing location. Walking past the marine bodies, only to then get attacked by them does put you right in the Master Chiefs mind set as it were, where as Halo 2 just gets annoying.
I think, for me anyway, Halo 2 does try to be a little more realistic, where as Halo was just trying to be a cool shoot em up, so when your playing it, it feels more real. Take the weapons for example, from the sounds to the controller vibrations halo 1 wins out right and makes for a better playing experience where as with 2 even with the joy of duel wielding you never have as much fun.
Beyond that, the Brutes never seem as fun to kill (in any way) then the elites, and the boss at the end does spoil it a little - the first one ended quite dramatically and didnt need a super boss to tie it all together.
Multiplayers where they both come into there own, but its swings and round abouts I think. Where as Halo 2 has the duel wield, Halo 1 is simply more fun (part of that has to do with the indestructable vehicles I think).

Eugh, Captain Massive Gorilla Thing. I hated him. Do you know what the worst part about that boss is? The fact that if you wait, eventually the waves of Elites will kill him for you. I don't recall that Warthog driving me to safety on its own at the end of Halo!
I get what you mean about the change in terrain, but there's only so many times you can fight through the same identical corridor before you lose the will to live.

See now you say that but how many times have you played the first level? I bet that, like me, that first bit of driving ('This cave isnt a natural formation' - what gave it away cortana, the mood lighting or the metallic finish) has become almost reflex, and when you hit the walls on that S bend you think quitely that your out of practice...
Ill have to investigate that with the boss, although I remember the last time I actually bothered to do it was on legendary when me and a mate decided it was time to kill it, and a few hours later it was finally dead - what did we get for the trouble? Sod all.

To be honest, my overwhelming memories of Halo are the Warthog driving at the end and the endless corridor repetition. The fact that even 4 years after the last time I played it all I really remember clearly is the same 3 generators over and over again sums up my feelings on the matter.

Ahhh that corridor repition. Hmmm I dunno, I can see why they did it (its fairly huge so its not like your going to really going to look at the level in detail unless you get out, and if you get out.
Im suprised you didnt mention how horrendously difficult it must be for anyone who wants to leave the Pillar of Autumn - theres only one way to get to the hanger and thats a five minute car drive over a dodgy out door balcony, several jumps, and a lot of poor maintenace.
