i'm not sure what to be more worried about: your finding a cartoon mouse cute, or that you refer to adolf hitler as 'cunning'. the guy was just sick. a bludgeoning, idealistic genocidal maniac with a severe dislike of anyone who wasn't german or of german decent. i find him truly repulsive, and yet i have to study him in incredible detail (i'm a history student).
still, a nice, individual style, written with a lively wit and the right sort of attitude to what you are writing. interesting as well as informative. well done, 'kid'. you show a good deal more maturity in your writing than your years would denote. i don't mean to be either patronising or sound like a teacher with what i wrote up there.

What I resent is the slamming of one Adolf Hitler. If the m**********r can virtually level Europe in 5 years, he knows what he's doing. And the world owes him to revitalising the world's ecomony and bringing everyone out of the depression. If you wanted to be totally sick you could say that he helped cut down the world's surplus population, but even I find that in poor taste.
Everyone looks just at his (many) bad points. Nobody whats to see, hear or think anthing different about the man. I know he was a demented s**t-arse, but get sooo pissed off when people stick their fingers in their ears and chant "Hitler's gay la la la Hitler's gay la la la..."
Don't worry about sounding like a teacher. I hear things like what you say from loads of people. We've started covering World War 1 in history, and there'll be plenty of talk about Hitler in the summer term. And boy is my teacher in 4 a shock...
Have you read my Jonathan Brisby entry? Jonathan used to be my big mouse fantasy, but with my attentions being diverted to music I haven't done much about him.
I can't help it if cartoon characters are cute. Basil's got it all. Looks, voice, wit etc. You watch that film and when he does the trick when he and Dawson narrowly excape death and Basil grabs Dawson and Olivia and says "smile everyone" and grins to the camera, god I can't help smiling myself!
Thanks for the compliments though. How did you find this entry, btw? I have nearly jack-s**t people reading my entries, let alone talking about them.
Thanx 'gain!
Hitler.

I tend not to sing 'Hitler's gay, la la la.' And, far from disputing the fact the the guy was a political genius (although I am far from agreeing with him), I view him as the foremost political strategist in the field of Foreign Policy since Napoleon Bonaparte. If his military strategies had been on a par with his political ones, the face of the world would be very different to the one we have today. However, were that the case, then the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy would not have existed, as the Nazi propaganda machine would not have been able to tolerate the idea that some alien race could make decisions over the top of the Nazis. So maybe it was a good idea that he lost.
On a completely different note, I resent these defamatory uses of the name Jack. It's my first name. Nothing annoys me more.

Hitler.
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jan 13, 2000
I read somewhere that a crucial factor (possibly) to Hitler losing was the fact he could have had Parkinson's Disease or something. Basically it resulted in him making a good few bad desicions, such as continuing to attack Russia and the way he deployed troops in Normandy in time for D-Day.
And if he'd won, I doubt our twisted minds would have cared about anything other than the Nazis.
Sorry about the jack thing. I never knew! Have you read Bravo Two Zero?
And how'd you find this article?

You put an entry into a forum about my homepage, which I read and then I clicked on the link that you put in there.
Oh, on the subject of articles, would you mind awfully going to my homepage and having a look at the article about British politics. I think it's pretty good, but I'd like a second opinion.
Cheers!

That sounds sort of right.
I'll try to read your entry on the Sunday. As it says on my homepage I'm meant to be taking Internet leave so I shouldn't even be here, let alone at peak rate! Put I'll try to find a time and place.
British politics eh? Hmmm...

Yeah. The sub-ed who rejected it last time said that they didn't want to have to reject such wit and humour, but the factual content of the article was just too low for it to be accepted into the Approved Guide. Oh well. I've re-vamped it and re-submitted it, so we'll see what comes of it...

First off, the subject's a great one. Here's a kid with little/no insight into politics and what it's all about. I think a good deal of advertising for this entry wouldn't go amiss, so it can get reviewed by people who know the political scene inside-out, inlike me.
There wasn't any mention of Liberal Democrats, or any of the smaller parties out and about. I figure you could start with adding bits o them.
This is the second time today I've heard someone on h2g2 slam Thatcher. Ah yes, the Iron Maiden (who got featerued on the cover of two of the same band's early singles). We need people like her, that don't take no shit from anyone. I liked her.
I think that the article does a bit too much slamming of the Labour and Tory parties. I figure you need to make their good points clearer, and maybe cut down on the slamming. This could be a massive great thing if given appropriate treatment.
Looking at the time that entry has been around, I'd give my first submitted entry two weeks at the most before the subbies look it over. Cool.

I've updated it now. You will be pleasedto hear that the following parties are now included: the Lib Dems, the Green Party, Plaid Cymru, the Monster Raving Looney Party, and the Scottish National Party. All with customary acidic comments. Except the Welsh, as they have had a hard enough time of it anyway...

I like it. A definite improvement. I noticed you didn't cut out the insults and replace it with more factual information, but then I realised that for this to have a 100% chance of being accepted into the official guide it would have to be as dull as the rest of the crap that's in there.
Honestly, a good deal of those official entries are shitzen! Way too brief, and so mind-numbingly dull and pointless. If they're accepting the crap that they are, then my Eric Clapton entry has no choice but to become an official entry.
I was going to submit this article to the Irregulars Of Baker Street Webring, but then I remembered this conversation. Mentioning that fact has driven the final nail into the coffin. Might as well forget about it then.
Well done Jack, for your entry.
Well done Mike, for your own.

Who said that the insults weren't factual? William Hague does indeed look as if he is seven. Neil Kinnock did have one gear for forwards and six for reverse. Margaret Thatcher was a man. And, believe it or not, the Monster Raving Looney Party is led jointly by a cat and his master.
Submit your entries anyway. I figure that the world has gone insane, and so you therefore have to have wacky entries to describe it If my logic holds true, they will eventually realise that the only way to create a resource that people want to use is to access the wit and creativity that exists among the younger members (i.e. us) of the h2g2 community.
For the moment, however, h2g2 is just like real life: old people sat around in cartels, isolated and remote, arbitrarily deciding what goes in to the official Guide and what doesn't. I notice that neither of us have been accepted as Sub-Eds, yet another demonstration of an ageist dictatorship

Oh well, some mother-fucker of a sub-editor rejected my History Of Eric Clapton entry. Said it wasn't factual enough. Bollocks. If I crammed more info into that it would have looked stupid. And there were four links at the end to articles that gave further analysis to aspects of Eric's career.
ffmike said that the entry was trying to be too broad for it's own good. I was tempted to say bollocks again but didn't.
For a further insight I can post what I told the h2g2 mailing list about my experience.
So, my other entries have no chance of being accpeted now. So instead I've decided to submit my entries of Sex Pistols lyrics, and maybe a few others just to waste the subbies time.
If any are reading this then I won't take it back, you lot need to learn to read!

Actually, I've rather well for myself . Maybe I -should- take it back...

Hey Mike,
Just to say that I'm not ignoring you, it's just that the I-Guard on the school system has prevented me from reading your last post in the 'Are you a thespian, or is it just the way you walk' forum. And I'd forgotten about this one.
Anyhoo, how are you doing? Any more accepted articles yet? Keep churning them out.

I KNOW I already posted here...
I don't blame you for ignoring/forgetting this one.
You know I have to trawl through my guide entries to get here?
Today I got a new oficial guide entry. Unfinished sub matters are now being sorted finally, so things are going good
Have stopped writing guide entries, now I'm more working on short stories. The current gap between guide entries is the longest since October!

I find it best to focus on one project at a time. I'll be writing over the summer too, after my exams.
Oh, check out http://www.h2g2.com/A371459
It's the Alternative Tent for the h2g2 Festival in the Park. Done by me.
