So what the buggers all this then?
On the way home on this fate full evening, the topic of conversation between me and my mate turned to old football games at high school. This some how turned into:
'If Lord of the Rings was a football team, who'd be on your team?'
Sounds easy to answer at first, but when you get thinking...
Now this is only a trial run of this, so bear with me. Please note i know bugger all about football and the results will be based on the mutual decisions of me and my mate.
Pick any charecters from lord of the rings (book and/or film). These can be either good or evil charecters, although please note that Tom bombadil may get injured..
You need:
A suitably Heroic(or feindish) name
One goalkeeper
Four players (including one captain)
Two Subs
One coach
Please, no beasties or horses. Everyones on foot and without weapons, although there skill and style of fighting will reflect in playing.
This must come with a short reason why each play is on the team, and any position that player might play in. Example is given below.
Now some might consider Gandalf to be the best goal keeper, but then again a nippy strike from legolas might get one past him. Like wise some good shouting from Coach Theoden might spur a few guys on, while Coach Sauron might scare the hell out of the opposition.
How are the scores worked out?
The team you have is perminant, although you can change your line out at any time before tuesday night. Wednesday morning i take a copy of all the teams and Me and my friend (soon to join h2g2) will act as referees and decide goals accordingly during wednesday morning. The results will then be placed on a thread for permenant record, along with the fixtures for next week.
So what else can i do?
At any time if one of your players annoys you enough, you can sack him!1. At this point you can hire another player. This applies to any member of your team.
Some people will inevitably have the same players as someone else. This is absolutely no problem. Its assumed that the charecter has an identical twin.
I made this for a bit of a laugh really, something else to do on site. I hope this works and with a bit of luck it should prove ample entertainment for all.
The Referee for each match will be Gollum. He is also the linesman, the medic, the riot police, the governing body... well you get the idea.
The Big blue Nonces (blue jerseys, pink shorts)
Coach: Samwise Gamgee - Cos there aint no givin up mister (frodo)
Goalkeeper: Theoden - Defend the keep!
Player One: Gandalf (in defence, Captain) - YOU. SHALL NOT. PASS!
Player Two: Gimli (in defence) - Hes got a lot of stamina, he could hold the line.
Player Three: Arwen (in midfeild) - One nippy elf lady to enchant the boys.
Player Four: Balrog (in midfeild) - You wouldnt like him when hes angry.
Sub one: Haldir - Possibly a stand in midfeilder or goalkeeper, due to his sharp reflexes.
Sub two: Glorfindel - Old star player, disgrunteled with the coach but still able to play a brilliant game.
Easy as that really.
