Hello,
Please let me know your thoughts. I think I have got rid of most of the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, but I have re-read the article so many times now I might not be seeing them any more!

Very well done, mummit. This is well-researched, good work! A few typos and bits but we'll get to those.
I was wondering whether you had read this entry A23780270 - makes one think about where the inspiration for freeganism came from... many communities in the developed world do this.
I am very pleased you wrote this.

Hello Wilma,
Thank you very much - I'm so glad you liked my article! I'd been vaguely aware about freeganism for a while, but was inspired to write about it after hearing a feature on the Radio 4 today programme which talked to a freegan about his reasons for living the way he did. I found it very thought provoking - and started to wonder how much of what is thrown away every day could actually be re-used or eaten. I hadn't seen the article on the Zabbaleen - but thanks for pointing it out, I found it a very interesting read. What an incredible amount of waste is produced by one city in just one day...the article was both sad and uplifting at the same time. Sad because these people provide such a valuable service, yet are looked down on by society, and then after so many years of providing the service the more genteel parts of society don't want to think about, the powers that be decide to try and replace them with a more expensive, more inefficient system...but it was uplifting because the Zabbaleen came over as being very proud and honest people - and they were at last starting to get support for the work they do.
I have to admit, articles like that just reinforce why h2g2 is such a special site - it's packed full of knowledge and has a great community spirit as well.

As someone who has made extensive use of Freecycle, I applaud this article. The only comment I'd make is that the one-sentence paragraphs make it a bit too fragmented, style-wise. Consider consolidating them.

An interesting article, mummit.
I've just recycled my husband's jeans today. The ones too small for him are just slightly too big for me, and I now have four pairs of 'new' jeans. The son sporting jeans hanging way below waistline has taken over the rest.

Hello everybody
Thanks very much for your comments. FM - I think you do have a point about fragmentation, I have stuck some of the sentences together, please let me know what you think.

I think this is a really good read, and a very relevant piece.
I'm from a generation that remembers the famines in Biafra and in my house we don't throw food away.... if push comes to shove the gets it.
Thanks for this.

Hello everybody,
Wow - I came back from my holiday yesterday, and this really has made it worthwhile coming back home.
I am so happy you all liked my article!! I haven't really written anything for years - so writing for h2g2 was quite a big deal for me because i wasn't sure if I could still do it!
You have all been very encouraging - thank you very much.
