A Conversation for Puns and Other Word Play
An Anglo-Saxon pun
Mike Tea Started conversation Dec 7, 2000
I thoroughly enjoyed your article and thought you might be interested in an Anglo-Saxon pun I came across in my reading. It seems that about a thousand years ago an English king had the reputation for putting his trust in the wrong places and failing to inspire trust in others. You have probably heard of him. His name is Aethelred the Unready. Apparently this play on words involved the pun Aethelred-Unread, meaning Noble Counsel-No Counsel. Not as funny as some but I imagine it had the old Anglo-Saxons rolling in the aisles - the British Aisles. Ouch!
