There's a typo here - 'turrets rojected' - I assume they projected, and in the after the civil war bit the Nevilles have lost an l.

rojected --> projected
gatehouse, the drawbridge --> gatehouse; the drawbridge
led passed a right-angled corner --> led past a right-angled corner
drop oil, stones or pour oil over any attacker --> drop stones or pour oil over any attacker
Hamelin --> Hameline (I think)
illegitimate sons on his death --> illegitimate sons, on his death

The paragraph which begins "The bailey contained three main buildings" is confused. It's not clear what the buildings are.

Was the sallyport on the first floor? I though a sallyport was a route for horses out of the castle between two curtain walls.

"Thy father slay mine" - did he really say this? Wouldn't he have said "Thy father slew mine"?

The sentence which starts "Edmund also supported Henry Bolingbrook" is confused. Was Henry the claim on the throne or was he a claimant who had a claim on the throne?

Hopefully the editor reads the convo.....

Two or three of these points would benefit from Bluebottle's input.

I know. I've been working my way through these, and I notice several have been picked with no PR comment at all.

I know they want to do them all at once, but in that case they need more scouts.

I would have worked my way through reviewing them all eventually, but there's only so much screen walls, rebutments and sally ports I can take in a day, not to mention the wars of the roses.

Changes have been made in this article, which can always be used as a point of reference. The typos have been adjusted. As for the couple of points, quick comments:

"The paragraph which begins "The bailey contained three main buildings" is confused. It's not clear what the buildings are" - that essentially is the archeologists conclusion as there are few remains that point definately what the buildings were, and it seems from the evidence that the Great Hall would have been used as the Great Hall for 30 years, then converted into a kitchen after the death of one particular lord, and then expanded and converted back into a Great Hall. Just stating that there were 3 main buildings in the bailey is probably the closest to the truth.

Nope, you're right that the sallyport wasn't on the first floor, and is essentially similar to a postern except that a postern tended to be hidden.

All records state that Bloody Clifford did, in fact, say "Thy father slay mine" - I suppose that in the heat of battle his grammatical sense was not 100%. Besides which, he was from Yorkshire afterall, and despite access to printed dictionaries etc they still can't talk proper English up here now...
