Very interesting Bluebottle.
I only came upon this because I was looking for a Philippa!
Now I will have to go and look at all the rest of Yorkshire's castles!!
I am a 'looking at castles' sort of person, but more familiar with the southern ones - Corfe, Bramber, Porchester, Dover, Arundel

The Doomsday Book does not mention whether their was a castle at Knaresborough or not.
One typo in above sentence:- their > there

One slight style thing, In the opening lines of the desciption of the King's Tower, you say it lies, I'd say it stands.

They're lies, all lies, all lies I tell you!

'Fraid I've not seen a Phillipa around here Watermusic. I too haven't really seen many castles of the North, but last year I moved from the Isle of Wight up to Leeds in Yorkshire, so have begun to look around here. Before now the castle's I've visited have been, as you have also seen, Corfe, Portchester, Winchester, Southampton, Yarmouth, Arundal and Carisbrooke. Of all the castle's I've seen, Carisbrooke remains my favourite.
