PS, please don't forget I'd like this featured as a new entry because it contains a lot of unedited stuff that was intended to go through PR to be an Edited Entry. smiley - ta

Did you forget this Skanky, or did you change your mind?

No, I forgot smiley - smiley - sorry!

So what do we do, then? I'm presuming that we're not handling this as a normal update, because it's being featured as a new Entry. Should I put all the details into an email to the Curators group or just use EF as normal?

I've no idea, that wasn't covered in the email that was sent to the group!
I'd suggest an email to the group, rather than EF.

Don't know if it's too late, but I was watching an old episode of QI last night and Mr Fry made me aware of the fact that rhubarb used to be used in shining silverware! I'm sure if you googled or the like you migh find more on this intriguing little titbit smiley - smiley

Not really too late, although I googled rhubarb and silver and didn't really get anything useful. I've not seen it in any of my old wives tale books either. If you find something, let me know. smiley - ok

Looks like it's the oxalic acid in the leaves that does the trick smiley - smiley

Here's a recipe I found on an eco-fiendly oz website -

Boil the leaves of sorrel or rhubarb in water in the pan/pot.
Let cool.
Use cool liquid to scrub the outside of pot/pan.

CAUTION: These leaves contain oxalic acid. A strong solution left in
an aluminium pan can burn a hole right through the bottom!

ooh you have been busy! I think I remember someone something about Rhubarb leaves and cleaning suacepans - someone mentioned it for this entry, did I leave that out? Shame on me... smiley - blush

We're trying to get the Ed's attention on this one at the moment. I've rattled the cage again now, but should get to it before they are back on Monday.

Thanks for that hard work!

Gnomon - time to move on

As far as I know, when an Update is processed in the normal way, it gets its day on the Front Page, but the authors don't get any e-mail informing them of this.

The Update page says it can be treated as a normal entry through the normal editorial process, which includes an email. If that's not possible then it should be removed from the page.

Unfortunately the Eds aren't reading the emails that told them this was ready (three so far).

There is a bit more to do on this one, so in a way that's lucky, but it's confusing. These people should get an email, and I can't do that. With regular members I'd say I'd post on their pages, but half of these haven't been here for ages.

3 oz caster sugar,
=
remove the stray comma

Rub an egg yolk onto the pastry
= unsure what you mean by "rub" - pastry should be handled as little as possible, if I'm applying egg yolk as a glaze I use a pastry brush, so I'd say "Brush the pastry with egg yolk"

Meringue three large egg whites and 6oz caster sugar
=
I think there's something missing there. "The meringue requires three large egg whites and 6ozs of caster sugar."

Make the meringue by putting the egg whites into a large, room bowl, and use an electric whisk to beat them to the stage where when you lift the whisk little peaks stand up and just slightly turn over.
=
I don't know what a large, room bowl issmiley - erm
Add a comma after "where" and "whisk".
"little peaks stand up" is sufficient.
