Aurora Warning.
Yeliab {h2g2as} Posted Apr 11, 2000
I'm really sick (in the annoyed sense). I completely missed it. I was outside after the conjuncture for 1h 30 and failed to notice anything. Then at my local astronomical society meeting there were all these beautiful pictures. Grr! I couldn't believe I missed it. Conjuncture was beautiful though.

Could H2G2 amateur astronomers set up a petition to get a real act to cut light pollution? Like the one I have just created on my page

Phil Posted Apr 11, 2000
All I could see was an orange glow on the horizon. The problem was it was in all directions and caused by street lighting Guess I'll have to move out of London to get to see some stars and stuff properly.

Do sign my pettition. And tell any known astronomers about it.

Jimi X Posted May 1, 2000
Update is done for May! It's a pretty boring month with a weak meteor shower and little else. But Mercury does put in a good showing toward the end of the month!

The Ghost Of TV's Frink Posted May 6, 2000
I'll mention it in the next newsletter - of course I don't know when that will be since nothing else is going on team-wise. I suppose I should try to show up on h2g2 more than once a week.......
Incidentally, I'm having a hard time catching you on the heavy hitters thing.

Jimi X Posted May 8, 2000
That's because I'm cheating!
I got Andres Galarraga at the start of the season for $1.50. And Moises Alou for $1.50 (of course, he's on the DL now) and Javy Lopes for $2.50. All are coming back from injuries from last year and I decided to take a chance.
That leaves me a lot of cash for the other five positions!! Good luck!
What's your line-up look like?
Mine is:
C- Lopez
1B - Galarraga
2B - Pokey Reese
SS - Edgar Renteria
3B - Caminitti
LF - Alou
CF - Tom Goodwin
RF - Matt Lawton
Can you tell I'm a National League guy?
Update for June
Jimi X Posted May 31, 2000
The June update is finished. And it's even a day early!!
This is a good month for catching Mercury in the evening and Jupiter and Saturn in the morning.
The asteroid Vesta makes a strong showing and there's reason to hope that the June Bootids will shower us with bright meteors!
Don't forget that the Solstice occurs this month as well!

Perseids Project
Jimi X Posted Aug 7, 2000
The Perseids meteor shower reaches peak activity on the
nights of Aug. 11/12 and Aug. 12/13. So beeline and I are recruiting
Researchers from across the northern hemisphere to take part
in a scientific survey by counting meteors on those two
nights.
Details can be found at http://www.h2g2.com/A411111 and
there is a link from there to the results page.
The sign-up forum is at the bottom of the page!
Thanks!

Jimi X Posted Aug 7, 2000
If you've got clear skies, get out there! And no weird counts because of stopping off at the pub before going out to observe!

Yeliab {h2g2as} Posted Aug 7, 2000
Who do you think I am?!
I've done an article on the Perseids that has useful info for observers and also 2 tables to print out for recording meteor counts.
http://www.h2g2.com/A - I'm not sure yet, it's not letting me upload it.
