Neat! I got a cool picture of Saturn. I believe this is worth mentioning in the next newsletter, assuming anyone braves the length of the forum thread to read it.........

I'm thinking of changing the newsletter format a bit. I think it might work better if I post each update on a user page, and make a new forum that would just be used to let everyone know the page has been updated.

Thoughts?

Great page! I was just about to do something like this myself which was just a very simple introduction to astronomy for non-astronomers.

Just one thing you missed out was the space shuttle - check out http://www.heavens-above.com to see when it passes over your house next - it is really impressive. I think this link is closely related to the Fourmilab link, but it is deadly accurate as to satellite passes.

Hi Jimi,

And while you are at it, if you get a chance, keep an eye out for aurorae - there's a coronal mass ejection from the Sun on its way....

Whoops! smiley - smiley

It must be all that residual stress of being in exactly that situation during the solar eclipse last year. It only happens once every 3 generations, and it happened on the worst, most godawful, wet, miserable day of the whole year.

Can't say I saw anything special in the sky last night though....

Next to reading to my kids, I love to show them the stars, planets and moons. And it's been cloudy for so long that we've all got a bit of cabin fever. Though clearing is predicted for tonight...

Hi Jimi X
I was wondering if you have anything on the sunstorms that are raging against our poor planet these days?
I tried to see if there was something on the net about it but I couldn't find anything.
I would like to learn some more about the sunstorms that are happening now and how they affects us.
Anybody?

Lovely page by the way smiley - smiley
