And how did it expand things

Not the printed word but the end user perhaps
a first almanac, Or map, would be looking at this from the wrong angle

Yep, I think it must be spectacles, or a looking glass, or something to make reading easier....

1225-1274 is not to early but being a monk from Italy sort of disqualifies him from creating a British first
