That's because Clinton is only a famous fan in all of this.
There's a key word which will put you on the right trail, and I've tried to push you in that direction from the start.

Not stadia. Roman connection, certainly, but I'm looking for a simpler construction...

It's not financially viable for America to go to war with a country with a large number of MaccyDs in it, as the loss in revenue back to the States is larger than the potential gain in attacking.

Quite right Bob
I was hoping you'd mention The Golden Arches Theory of Conflict Prevention - a political theory coined by Thomas L Friedman in his book The Lexus and the Olive Tree, and highly praised by Bill Clinton. Friedman suggests that no two countries with a McDonald's franchise had ever gone to war with one another. The argument goes that when a country has reached an economic development where it has a middle class strong enough to support a McDonalds network, it will not be interested in fighting wars anymore.
Of course there have been a few exceptions (eg Serbia/Bosnia).
These days, Friedman prefers the Dell Theory, which is similar, but the countries must feature in computer manufacturer Dell's supply chain

DCurious that although Clinton was a fan of the theory, he still was the one sending troops to Bosnia
