I am new to this website and have no idea how it works. I signed up but my username is researcher 158211, how do i change it to something i like? Also, i have no password, how do i get one?

Ok, i just got on tonight, but i know that you go to Preferences in your my space section, and you can add a nickname and a password. Hope that clarifies things for you.

a related question:
how long are usernames and passwords kept in the system?
I came back tonight from a long trip...
and had to register all over again. The system took my original email name and my nick... oh well. I'm back and it works, I just wondered.

Just don't log out! If you log out, you have to re-register or at least remember your password, which you will have forgotten, and then get a new email to get back in, or find your old key-code, which you have probably lost in the rare case that you actually attempted to keep it. But if you don't log out, the computer and the site remembers you and you don't have to worry about all that.

I'm far too idle to log out, but today I found that someone had nicked my cool bloo goo and abandoned a chunk of alabaster.
Then when I tried a posting it called me "unknown hitch hiker"
MOI !!! - UNKNOWN.
Ridiculous.
I'm the only one at work who doesn't have / need an ID card or badge.
That's because I can remember who I am.
I'm going to speak to someone about this!
