Sleep Well My Friend

You came into my life when I truly needed a friend

You were young, I was alone, two differences that only time could mend

Love was a gift that arrived through shared happiness and trust

As together we became as one, a partnership so just

You cheered me though the darkest days and kept loneliness at bay

I cared for you, you cared for me, there for each other night and day

And when the unthinkable happened and we spent some time apart

We endured the dark hours and finally together once more we made a brand new start

From then on things got better, with you to guide my way

And quite without knowing the years were taking our time away

So now I am without you, for the first time in many years

You are not here to cheer me up and help wipe away my tears

And though I know you will never return, you will be always in my heart

Time has just taken you from me, but my memories mean we will never truly be apart

For no matter where you are, our bond can't be broken my wonderful faithful friend

A bond so loving and strong that not even death can truly end

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
