And another Newbie!

You just reminded me. I used to work for a manager who tried to get all his teams exchanging ideas every now and then. He would call these 'cross-fertilisation' sessions.
We were always in fits of laughter, but he never saw the joke.

And just why would we ask the Archers? i mean, people posting there have a reason: it's a long running radio series they're listening to frequently. They exchange their views. Hootoo doesn't have anything similar to offer. So what works for the Archers will never work for hootoo because there is ho hhgg series to talk about.

I thought the Archers also had their 'chat' threads, but that they couldn't go off topic - I wouldn't be very good in there, would I

Oh, they talk about anything in Mustardland (see, I'm even lapsing into BBC messageboard jargon). Oh, if you see the verb 'to catpee' there, this means to Yikes. It stands for CATP - the Complain About This Post button.

I would more than happily be an h2g2 'Ambassador' to other boards or something - I'll try to mention it to Sam (possibly next week). I don't mind being shot down!
I have already amended my ACE message to include '...if you're arrived here from another part of bbc.co.uk'. Perhaps it needs another overhaul though?
Things I think should be included:
-An opening welcome.
-A brief description of h2g2 and a link to the h2g2 Tour or another ACE tour page that links to it.
-An overview of PR and its importance to the Guide.
-A link to Ask, as that's where most of us hang out.
-other stuff, at the ACEs decision (like QI, or the smiley page, or the GuideML clinic).
Any other ideas from other ACEs?

Read through the yahoo messages, Vip. We are *not* to welcome anybody from another DNA message board who hasn't posted to h2g2 thus expressing their interest in hootoo.
Initially, we weren't even meant to leave a welcome to a blank PS, but that would have meant not to welcome anybody, so we welcomed those.

Sorry, B'el - after four years or so off from ACEing I must have missed that one.
So is it just 606 and Archers that we avoid, or is it only h2g2-ers that we're supposed to welcome? Do we know why?
Thanks,

We're only supposed to welcome people who have posted on h2g2. As that's not feasible because the list would get too large, we usually welcome those shown on our list with blank spaces/convo lists.

Oh, and so you won't feel bad: Feisor welcomes them all, regardless.

I usually avoid the Archers and the Religion boards. Depending on the subjects, I might pick up someone from the Food board and leave them a link or two

Vip. I've browsed through the yahoo group. Look out for message #14644
There are more, older ones with more detail as to the why, but I haven't found them yet.

Cheers, B'El - I'll check that out when I'm at a computer that allows me to access Yahoo (I get the emails for every post made, but logging on is more of a problem).

I've just been ACEing - I haven't seen any of these new group emails you're talking about! I just welcomed a bunch of 606ers and the like. Oops! What's the current position then?

Who mentioned new emails?
And if you can access the yahoo group, you can go and look for the message I posted the number of. It's only one of many discussing whom we should welcome, and whom we shouldn't welcome ie ALL other messageboards who haven't demonstrated their deep interest in h2g2).
