When did the ACEs begin?

Historically speaking, are the ACEs the longest running volunteers?
Was just wondering, after wondering if U114401 was still a regular lurker, after wondering whether hir coffee recipe is lethal or not. The joys of the IID and http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/RandomEntry

Yes, I think they are. They didn't exist when I joined the site but were created within about 2 months or so of me joining and I remember being the recipient of one of the earliest official ACEings. That would have been around Novemberish 1999.

My secret spies tell me that December 6th 1999 was a special day on the ACE front.

This page is of relevance to the founding of the ACEs: A197417
Followed by A207488 and then A210664 (which is still the official page).

Sorry, I on ly just had a look at some PS reading 'Symphonie Orchestra' last posted on 16 August 2004. You didn't expect me to know what is behind that after a quick glance? I'm not much of a smiley - lurker, so if there is a clue on that site, I'll probably miss it. I haven't >>assiduously avoided << finding out, because I didn't know I should have been looking for something in the first place. You can be just as cryptic as TiT, so don't expect people to second-guess what you're on about. Be clear, and people will know and understand.

Second loosely related question:

A631469 was created long ago by U184691, who 'apparently' hasn't created any entries.

Does that mean newbies could create loads of entries, and just by failing to activate their PS, nobody would ever know? Or is there a way of trapping such things these days?

What you are seeing is the cumulative effect of lots of software changes (bugs and features). Old newbies didn't have to have a PS (and therefore couldn't be pestered by ACEs!) but all articles they made were visible anyway. Then changes were made which made PS's not show up in the list. Meanwhile, new newbies are given a dummy PS automatically and that even became one PS for each and every sub-site on which they register their account. But this didn't apply to old accounts which hadn't been "migrated" to the new SSO system. So that old account, which hasn't been used recently, would now count as unregistered and probably unregisterable - hence its data being suppressed.
