Now doesn't this sound like a modern cult, ordering people to come into the cult ignoring the pleas of the rest of the (semi-)sane world: and forgetting the needs of themselves (suicide: cf. Heaven's Gate) !

Exactly. I think that the more people investigate this kind of thing, the more it looks like Just Another Cult... and one that has far outlived its usefulness.
I can't take credit for the quote, though... that quote is straight out of the New Testament.
