Outriders in the sky

I still like my Peta Shop Boys/Girls suggestion! But if that's too silly (which, realistically, it probably is) then I'd go for "Outrider".
There was a lot of support for "Prefect" in the suggestions forum, and the arguments for it are obvious. My problem with it is that the word reminds me of my schooldays. I don't like anything that does that, and I suspect that many Researchers might feel the same way (especially the many who left their schooldays behind much more recently than I did, not to mention the few who are still there.)
I don't think that the "greeters" should have a title that makes them sound like stern authority figures. I would also argue against such titles as "hoopy froods" because, as someone pointed out in the other Forum, not everyone who comes here has read the Hitchhiker books, so not everyone would get the reference.
"Outrider" sounds like a friendly guide to lead you into the Guide, which is surely the idea of the job. It gets my vote. smiley - fish

I laughed out loud when I read your Peta Shop Boys suggestion... Great one! I read it out to Mark and Anna as well... smiley - smiley

what you know as km

It may or may not be of any particular relevance but "hoopy froods" is in fact a title in use on a rather well-known DNA-fans forum. Obviously the Guide has every right to claim it and put it to use as TDV sees fit, but it seemed worth bringing up. smiley - smiley

And also, though technically nobody asked my opinion, "prefect" doesn't sound to me like a particularly friendly person at all, with the Ford reference stripped away!

Hi KM hoopy frood.

I think the hoopy froods can stay at that other world famous website. There are far too many of them over here already. smiley - winkeye
